I’ve updated my UL5D driver from ATTO to allow for larger ram and loaded the new Kona 10/13 driver as well. Since then I’ve been experiencing random system freezes. Anyone have any experience with similar updates and issues?

I had some of those issues with the 3.1 driver when first installed. An uninstall, restart, delete the Kona Package in Library > Receipts, shut down & wait 10 seconds, Reinstall latest drivers, restart, fixed my problem.

Are you still on the G5 in your profile?

Try removing RAM. Have you tested to see if your RAM is good? Sounds like you might have a bad RAM module. Use Apple’s Hardware Test that came with your computer’s CD that contains OSX.

    Jeremy,

I will go and update my profile next but I have migrated two systems to the Mac Pros. Good call. I know we’d talked about Mac Pro issues recently. The RAM passes the hardware test as that was my first thought. When working properly the system really speeds up with the extra memory I must say. As well, I’m still have the annoying crackle in the audio and have to stop and start playback until it goes away.

Pull RAM down to 2GB until ATTO updates their drivers.

Yep, we’ve had that on all our Kona systems since V 2.0 of the Kona drivers came out. Can’t seem to track down where that comes from.

How much RAM do you have installed and is it installed properly? There’s an issue with more than 2GBs of RAM and atto.

Also, make sure you read this to see if your ram is in the MacPro correctly:

Yes the crackle, what do you use for an audio d/a?

This is the new ATTO driver as of Friday. I spoke with ATTO as well and supposedly there is no limit to the amount of ram anymore.

    Jeremy,

I could not really understand the chart. I have 2 1 gig sticks in riser 1 and 4 512 sticks in riser two. Melrose Mac said they’d exchange the 4 512s for 2 1 gigers if I need to. What do you think?

What version of the driver is it?

According to that chart, you should have the two 1Gbs in Riser 1, two of the 512s in riser 2 then 2 of the 512s in Riser 1. In summary:

    Riser 1: 2-1GB sticks then 2-512 sticks.

    Riser 2: 2-512 sticks.

If you swap the 4-512 sticks for 2-1Gb sticks, then put those in Riser 2.

Confusing, but does this make sense?

On second look, I would definitely trade in your 4 512s for 2 1GB and then your riser pairs will match (2 in A, 2 in B)
