Hey Bernhard,

In the olden days it was called a “difference key”.
Within Adobe that appears now to be called a “Difference Matte”.
Not sure that you can avoid going via After Effects, but there are tutorials out there that will take you through the process.

It is late where I am, so I haven’t watched the whole video from Jake In Motion, but it looks close enough:

And, if you are brave, you might be able to replicate in PPro.

But Difference key is most likely only to work on a locked-off tripod shot, where the background on both layers is identical with no movement.

If you don’t have that, you’ll need to follow Ann Bens’ advice above.

Yes, an ever returning “discussion” between me and Adobe.

“Growing Files” is something that broadcast digital server based news have been doing for over 25 years, where as Adobe/Frame.io tried recently to sell it as something ground breaking new (except when you want to stream 4K live over I/P to a remote edit suite, size becomes a very important issue).

The “hidden” ingredients, IMHO, is the MXF wrapper as stated on your Adobe link:
“Supported codecs for growing files within an MXF wrapper”

And then: Hardware (storage with I/O) that can handle the speed of a Live Feed, whether it being off-air, or I/P based. There are several companies out there that provides the glue for that to happen.

But my best bet would be to start with your input media, and then your storage solution. Some of the storage companies might even have programmed a PPro plug-in that will do all the work for you.

Hey Ben,

You can either pan Left & Right.

Or, you can map out the channels (mono) in your preferences so you don’t have to do it for future clips in those tracks. Although, you’ll will want a stereo file to be in a separate Stereo track…

Hey Gon,

Yes, Premiere Pro “sometimes” do that, not helped by some of the codecs used by Zoom.

Have you tried to trash the preferences and delete your cache?
The other one to try is to restart the project.
Maybe create a new one, and import the TimeLine (Sequence) in to that.

Also, I too have the luxury of 64GB, but sometimes Windows Explorer and/or FireFox thinks that they have first right to use CPU – shut them down + any other web-browser that lights up yellow or worse in your task manager.

If all of that fails, shut your PC down, wait 15 mins, and boot it up again – can’t believe that I am suggesting this, but…

Hey Matija,

A couple of years back I bought into the then new Mac Mini M1 as I needed to run FCPX for remote work during COVID LockDown(s).
I also run Adobe CC on it, mainly PPro and AE.
It is still a workhorse for me, but I would not put any bigger AE jobs through on it (I have a nice HP with i9 and 64GB of Ram to do that for me).

It was suggested at the time that 16GB RAM on the M1 would be equal to 32GB RAM on a PC. Whether that is still the case, you’ll need to ask smarter people around here about that.

I would personally not go for the MacBook Pro as that set-up does not suit the work that I do. But I would consider “upgrading” my Mac Mini to a Mini 2 Pro, or a Mac Studio.
Mac Mini makes it cost effective for me to grow with the Apple line of computers, but still severely restricted by hard-ware upgrade options across the Apple product line-up.

The real question is:
You have been using your current set up for about 11 years – what are your needs going to be over the next 5 – 11 years?
No point in going Mac Studio, if you are not going make full use of it, or if it is more cost effective to farm out final renders?

Adding to Walter’s excellent advice, I would suggest that you investigate:

1) Save your A and B camera effects settings as a preset in the Effects panel.

2) Either combined with a preset, or separately, put your A and B camera (MultiCam?) into a subsequence that you can chop up, and edit, but apply the right preset to it when needed.
“Scene Edit Detection”, an often missed but excellent feature, might be able to identify your edit points on the subsequence track in-vision camera edit.

Hey Duke,

Rather than applying a LUT, have you tired doing it “manually” in the PPro Color Panel?
You could also see what result a “Match” to the GoPro footage under the Color Wheels menu gives you.

Alternatively there is in most bigger cities (and by remote) websites where you can hire freelancers by the hour or day – I’m based in Central London, UK.
There is also agencies that have a rooster of freelance editors, but that all depends on your budget.
Keep in mind, that there is likely to be a difference in quality of services and final master between those who charge you $5/hr and those at $100/hr.

Another option, if you know what part of the video that you want, is to use Adobe Rush to make an assembly edit with, maybe even the final video that you need to make.

If you are an Adobe CC subscriber it is likely that Rush is in your package, and it is designed for creators, rather than editors, but also limited in some of the functionality. However, you can migrate your edit into your Premiere Pro, and hand that project to an editor who can grade, audio mix, tighten up the cuts and add graphics, music and more for you.

Hey Vasco,

Yes, the Smart TV’s are getting smarter, whilst less intuitive as they want to squeeze all the functionality onto your standard TV remote control.

A few suggestions:

Have you tried Cyberlink’s Power2Go?
I am not a great fan of Cyberlink, as they continuously spam you with the same massive discount, as a new discount. Which I am sure goes against the advertising rules in the UK – where you cannot call something a discount, if it in effect is the permanent price of product.
Setting that aside, I use Power2Go to burn all of my back-up discs on, and will continue to do so – as I never want to author a DVD again, I can’t vouch for that part. But encourage you to try it.

Alternatively, you could go the route of hosting everything on-line as a stream, like a VOD service.
I have one client that are very happy with WebTV – they are small outfit, but if you want something personal, then that is a good place to start. You will need to had a service that can host your 4K files, and have bandwidth to stream them.

Other alternatives are accessing your media through a gaming console like the XBox, or Amazon Fire stick and Apple TV + more would likely want you to add your photos, music and films to their services – just be careful, as you might lend them a hand, and lose your arm + give up control of your media.

There is no perfect solution to your question, but plenty of options.

My own kids just about knows what a DVD disc are, but never used them at home – soon I shall entertain them with my LP collection…

I agree, and are already seeing most of those features happening in Premiere Pro, at no extra cost. Although not perfect, it is developing.

The next holy grail in transcription and subtitling, is translation, and text to voice audio replacement.
Again, not perfect, as you still need a native speaker to make sure that the language is right (Think subtle difference in the meaning between “Here” and “Hear”).

Should for transparency state that I am a customer, and have recently helped them with a video for Seedrs crowd-investment platform, where we did:
English -> Transcribe -> English subtitles -> Translate to Spanish -> Copy to “Text-to-Speech” -> insert Spanish voice on video -> Interviewee (investor) speaking in Spanish with English subtitles.

This is only a small peek into the near-future of what is to come in improved features (inside NLE software or as an external resource) that will help us in the editing process, making videos more inclusive for a wider audience.
