Adding to Eric’s excellent advice, do be extra careful that you do not find yourself in a situation where you are reselling footage / stock elements / templates that you do not have a licence to sell.
Many of the stock libraries allows you to include their goods in client projects, but not to sell them on where they can be “extracted” and used in other projects.

One comment though, as I am not sure as to why you can not work on other language/office versions?
Because reversioning for local markets is something that we as creatives has to seal with all the time. There are businesses out there that does nothing else, but generating content versions for local markets.
With that in mind, could you do the work by remote for the local office that has requested your source project files, or could you re-engineer the project in such a way (Collapse layers into .MOV files) so that only the elements that needs changing can be changed?

    Just thinking out loud.

    Hey Simon,

I agree with all of that about good design and easy to read.

But suspect that the computing power for making your screen bright enough, on a laptop, would eat all your battery.

Having said that, there are editing software that allows you to select one or the other setting for NLE screen. And, you can always bring a black-out blanket to put over your head and laptop screen when editing in the park – although, you’ll still appear bleached 😃

You are very welcome, happy to help.

BTW: If you are looking to up-scale your NTSC to HD or 4K + noise reduction, head on over to the A.I. forum:

Did you untick the “Uniform Scale” in the “Scale Width” menu in the effects panel?

This should allow you to stretch footage in the other direction, to make it the right aspect ratio. At the end you “Scale” and “position” the footage to where you want it to be – with or without black bars.

I think that it would be fair to assume that B&H would be putting on B&H T-Shirts, and showcase everything in their shop, unless a better offer came by.

In the same way the fridge in your local grocery store often comes with Coca-Cola or Pepsi or other branding. These things are not free, and often a sponsor will soften the cost of displaying their merchandise right up at the front.

The real question is whether B&H knows something about FCPX development, that the rest of us have missed – because currently even Avid are starting to look attractive again.

    Hey Jonathan,

I am not sure that there are any NTSC camera out there that can shoot with “letter box filter”, unless a specific lens was used. Or, if it is anamorphic played back on a 4:3 screen?
Adding that Adobe will scale the whole frame, not parts of it.
Hence why it will stretch vertically.

Suggesting that you set up a 16:9 Sequence (widescreen) and drop your footage onto the timeline and see what happens.
You may need to select “Scale to Frame Size”to fill the frame.

If you want it with black bars on a 4:3 screen, you’ll need “squeeze” the Y-Axis of the video in your Effects panel.

    Hope that this helps.

    Hey Craig,

Thank you. Interesting, as one would not expect Apple to “sponsor” a boot stand, which is what they may have done through either free demo gear, additional di$counts, sales promotions etc. And, it is more cost effective to get a dealer to do the work.

The other side to the coin is that B&H would not get much margin out of a PC, not least as companies like Dell, prefer to ship directly to end-client. And, one should not forget that over the years, dealers have at times put on “T-Shirts” for a specific manufacturer. Just to send a signal to suppliers who they were previously loyal to, that those suppliers needs to treat their VAR better, much much better…

You didn’t mention HP, were they present?
    And, how about Adobe?

As FCPX is currently in a race with itself to reach the bottom, as lack of investment in the NLE Software and poor treatment of their plug-in base of suppliers is starting to bite. It is interesting that B&H are building their business marketing on a software belonging to a company, that like Dell, wants the end user to buy direct…

    Just thinking out loud.

  • Hey Leonard,

The bane of our life’s, when the “supplier” of an asset, cannot bring themselves to add their name or identifier to the media/graphic asset.

Pure guess work, and in your case, one might start at Pond 5, but ends up at Premium Beats to make the down-load from there.

And, you can’t have a go at your colleague for not naming the file, as the “name” of supplier does not often carry through inside the project, and often “Lower Thirds” involves a last minute scramble before delivering to client/broadcast.

Well done for finding them – and thank you for sharing.

    Hey Alex,

As Roland suggests, there are plenty of places to find Lower Third templates, but it is important that it matches the software that you use.

    Having said that.
If adventurous, you could design your own in Photoshop or similar.

If Adobe CC subscriber, Adobe Stock has a section of Lower Thirds, some of them free to use:
    https://stock.adobe.com/uk/search/templates?filters%5Bcontent_type%3Atemplate%5D=1&filters%5Btemplate_type_id%5D%5B%5D=5&filters%5Btemplate_category_id%5D%5B%5D=7&order=relevance&safe_search=1&search_type=filter-select&limit=100&search_page=1&get_facets=1

I’ve got an annual plan to Motion Array, which often has a quick solution.
They cover PPro, A.E., Resolve and FCPX:
    https://motionarray.com/refer-to-friend/49a02a-O5Bc
(My referral link which should offer you a free trial – although, do read the small print of the license as you can only use their content whilst subscribing, where as the client videos you make whilst a subscriber can continue to be distributed.)

    Hope this helps.

    Hey Guy,

This might sound silly, but I had this come up recently:
Are you using a Thunderbolt cable between the iMac and the Blackmagic eGPU?

As in many external SSD drives only ships with a USB C cable.
And, if you in passing have grabbed one of those, the Mac may not see the Blackmagic.
