If you can edit all of it on one track, you could do a pic-in-pic effect on each video track, one for left screen, and the other for the right screen. Just remember to remove effect, and export each track individually.

Second option, if your kit can do it, go 4K or even 8K and have both videos end up on the same master output – just make sure that your projectors can project the half of your video (Left or Right). That way, you know that the video will always be in sync on the playback, as it will play them out from the same device.

Third option is to stack 3 sequences, and use 2 of them as a subsequence which are layered in the 3 sequence in split mode.

I am sure that there are smarter people around here who will have additional ideas.

Please don’t forget to tell us how it all turns out – sounds really interesting.

Hey Severus,

If you don’t already have it, there is adobe After Effects that you can download on a free trial.
It has a lighter version of Mocha included as standard.

Adding that BoriFX will also allow you to use Mocha Pro for two weeks:

Just keep in mind, that you get what you pay for – as unhelpful that is, it may be a better longterm solution for you to follow the advice above and go with the internal tracker ion FCPX.

Hey Bill,

You raise a good point about keeping skills up to date. Which often might be the case, where we in the film & TV industry do not prioritise it – unless it is mandatory Health and Safety courses.

A few years back I had to migrate across to FCPX, from PPro, for one client. I went through the LinkedIN FCPX lessons, and found as part of the process I had learned some of the newer functionalities. Which the client staff editors had not had time to discover – not least as they moved from FCP-7 to X. That experience was a bit of an eye opener to keeping up skills, and taking the time to do it.

Have to add, that like you, I am also keeping an eye on Resolve. Not least as there appears to be a movement by some broadcasters, to go from PPro to Resolve, even for News Production.
Only concern is, if Resolve is following the path of Apple, will we like with the Mac based FCPX (also a one off payment), see them migrate development onto the iPad?
And, reduce investment in the older established software, in return for an monthly/annual subscription income through the App store?

Good news is, if you can edit, you can very quickly migrate to any NLE of your choice, I think 🙂

Welcome to the COW.
Have you edited on other digital editing platforms (NLE), before Premiere Pro?

If not, start with Adobe Premiere Pro Classroom in Book, and get used to the basics of editing.

Alternatively, depending on your internet connection, LinkedIN might give you 30 days free access to LinkedIN Learning. Where there are excellent video courses, some that come with the source files. Including this one that I have not tried, but Ashley Kennedy, the instructor, is very good:

If you know non linear editing, then you need to jump in the deep end and just start editing. There might be another local film-maker, or someone in your neighbourhood that needs a video edited – doesn’t matter what, weddings, short-film, social media, broadcast – just get the footage, and if you have a destination for the finished product, you’ll soon learn on the job – and “client” feedback.

Hey Paula,

Mercalli plug-in is PC only.
Have not heard of it before, as I notmally use Mocha Pro, Adobe Warp or After Effects.
But for what it does, it looks great, and price is not bad.

However, looking the Mercalli, it looks great. But, and it is a BIG but, all of the examples shown in their reel, are not as extreme as the problems that you are describing.

It is impossible to give clear ideas for a solution without a visual example.
Also, you need to do the rough cut of what you must have, before repairing it by either visual repair, using B-Roll or some other visual device in the edit.

Hey John,

I would export XML from the current Library.
Set up a new Library, with your desired settings, and then import XML to that.
Once happy, delete the old Library.

I’m sure that there are other ways of doing it.
So do listen out for other advice.

Sorry, but without seeing the footage, it is difficult to give any advice.
You could try to cover the bad parts with B-Roll or archive.

From your description, it is not clear whether you have edited the interview?
If not, do that first, and then you can start worrying about stabilizing and other ways of fixing the edit.

If you have a wide shot of the whole interview, then depending on the angle, you can reframe that shot and use as cover or replacement.

Echoing on Ben’s comment, I earlier this year found the CEO’s iPhone in my hand for a company needing a crowd investor video.

Video worked well, and the company got more money than they asked for.

Adding that you can shoot 4K at 25fps.
But do make sure that you have enough battery and storage, if filming a bigger job 😉
