How to delete media from a Library and, instead, connect it to external media.
I usually Leave Files in Place when importing media to a Library. I didn’t notice that my import prefs were set to Copy to Library, and I imported many GB that I actually wanted to stay left in place.
Is there a way to reverse this. i.e. remove clips stored in the Library and, instead, link them back to the external drive location where the media resides? I’ve searched for an answer, but may not have asked the right question. I’m running an M2 Max MBP, FCP 10.6.10, Ventura 10.6.2, 32GB RAM, 2 TB SSD, and two 2TB external SSDs (one for material I use over & over, the other for editing projects). Thanks.

Hey John,
I would export XML from the current Library.
Set up a new Library, with your desired settings, and then import XML to that.
Once happy, delete the old Library.I’m sure that there are other ways of doing it.
So do listen out for other advice.Atb

In fcpx, chnage your storage location , then use the “Consolidate” function to move the media outside of the library to an external folder, then delete it on the Finder level. Then relink to the original media on the hard drive.
