  • Hey Vicky,

    Just to understand your setup:

The Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K is either HDMI, 2 Channel RCA HiFi audio in 24-bit (or SPDIF Audio to which there are little information about). But there is no SDI?

Your Genelec 8010 speakers are XLR in?

Cheapest, not necessarily perfect, is to to get a mini jack stereo to 2 x XLR male (Left and Right) and use the audio out of your headphone socket. You will still need to use the software volume control on your Mac/PC. Or if you have the multicore cable, get two phono to XLR cables.

The alternative is a break-out box, and once you start spending money on that, you might end up with an Avid S1 or similar. There is likely to be other motorized Audio mixers on Black Friday sale, but would not know where to start, and how it will integrate into your system.

Hope that this helps just a little bit.

  • Hey Jack,

Great, there are quite a few options out there. Some which does not require an upfront cost.

Should have added, although not alot, Topaz is only great if you keep upgrading it.

The purchase involves an auto-upgrade plan, which is about 1/3 of the cost.

  • Echo John on Topaz, I’ve got some really good results from it + they keep on making the software better.

Right now they have a 50% discount for Black Friday:
    https://www.topazlabs.com/sale
I’ve not tried their new cloud render.

But even without that I get decent results in speed of processing + quality in from going PAL or NTSC to HD for Broadcast.

Should add that I also tend do a grade as I find old Tape Footage looks better in HD if highlights are turned up and shadow blacks turned down.

    Hey Syed,

Blender is free to use, and I know of a few companies that have moved from C4D (Maxon) to Blender. I dropped Maxon sometime ago, when they took over Red Giant, and took up to 3-weeks to come back to me on an inquiry about upgrade price.

However, in straight answer to you question: For 10 Dollars, this might be what you want:

I have purchased more Blender courses from basic to advanced, through http://www.HumbleBundle.com that also from time to time offer Blender books through Packt and other publishers, at fraction of the cost – all for charity:

Should add that Unity and Unreal starting from free, also have excellent 3D tools that can be used for Commercail production.

    Hope that this helps you?

  • Hey Bobby,

Easy enough, keyframe a circular wipe effect (not transistion).
Keep in mind that you are having 2-layers of video, to make it work.

    Hope that this helps.

They do have the DNxHR codec on their list, can’t hurt uploading one of the two others.

Keep in mind that YouTube is unlikely to play out your chosen format, but will instead transcode it.

You can do the same is in have a master format for archieve, and transcode from that for distribution.
interestingly, YouTube does not have DCP as a formet… Go figure.

    Hey Jean,

There is a great list of formats that YouTube will accept here:
    https://support.google.com/youtube/troubleshooter/2888402?hl=en-GB

Although it is not clear about file sizes.
Have to admit that I am surprised, but then again, last time I uploaded anything it was MP4 transcoded from a master format.

12Bit is in theory better than 10Bit, but question is whether you are the only one that will notice?
And, how much space (money) you have for storing your masters on a drive (HD/SSD/Large-scale raid/Cloud)?

You can always upload to YouTube without publishing, and check if you are happy with the result.

November 24, 2024 at 8:16 pm in reply to: MAC STUDIO M1

    Hey Dan,

The MAC STUDIO M1 MAX (2022)
Is on the Qualified Apple Mac Systems for Media Composer Sept 2024:
    https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Knowledge/en422411

    And screenshot below.

    Depending on your budget:

Question is whether Avid will certify the latest Mac Mini in the near future?
It comes with Apple M4 Pro chip with 14‑core CPU, 20‑core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 64GB unified memory, 2TB SSD storage, 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI port, two USB‑C ports, headphone jack>

And that this might give you more bang for the money.
They have in the past certified the Mac Mini ’23.

I’ve just recently signed up to an Avid MC Ultimate subscription.
In discussions with my supplier, they suggested that currently PC is a better platform than the latest Mac systems. Apple tend to make “sudden” changes to their OS. This makes it more difficult for software companies to keep their software up to date and stable.

Not making a judgement, except that if you go with a new Apple, don’t rush to update the OS.

    Hope that this helps?

    Hey Jean,

I still value ProRes 422 HQ or 4444 as the most stable master format.
There are other formats, but ultimately it depends on your distribution channel, and if there is a client who have given you specifications for what they want?

From the ProRes you can transcode to DCP, H264 or H265.

Make “private view” uploads to YouTube to see what you like best, before publishing – do make sure to watch on different devices, or you might still get disappointed.

November 19, 2024 at 7:30 pm in reply to: Premiere pro project damaged

    Hey Saiful,

Adding to Devrim’s suggestions, I would set up a new project, and just import the last good timeline from your old project. If that works, export an XML straight away as your “back-up”.

Also, you don’t mention hardware or PPro version that you are using, which would be helpful too.
Before I decided to ditch Adobe, I had some FX6 footage in my project, where it would just crash out without creating a crash report, as soon as I clicked anything inside the open project.

Once I transcoded the footage to ProRes, all my trouble went away. It was easy enough to replace the original files inside the project with the transcoded files.
