  • upgrading an issue with the resolution with a clip

So I filmed a scene in low lighting, and when I went to review the clip when editing the resolution was not so great, a bit pixilated. In FCP 11, is there a simple way to up-rez a clip? or do I need a plug-in? Thx in advance.

I recommend Topaz Labs’ Video AI. They have a free trial.

Echo John on Topaz, I’ve got some really good results from it + they keep on making the software better.

Right now they have a 50% discount for Black Friday:

I’ve not tried their new cloud render.

But even without that I get decent results in speed of processing + quality in from going PAL or NTSC to HD for Broadcast.

Should add that I also tend do a grade as I find old Tape Footage looks better in HD if highlights are turned up and shadow blacks turned down.

    Hi,

For starters and for free, you can try the built-in Noise Reduction in Final Cut Pro. It’s in the Basics section of Filters. It probably won’t be a good enough solution. Neat Video is another good solution I used before; I was always happy with the result. You may try other recommendations in trial periods and choose one.

Thanks to everyone who answered. I downloaded Topaz, but I can’t afford it right now. Then I decided to try Handbrake, which I have used for years for various odds and ends and have always managed to accomplish a lot with it, and sure enough, after trying out a few options it made the film clip in question look pretty good.

    Hey Jack,

Great, there are quite a few options out there. Some which does not require an upfront cost.

Should have added, although not alot, Topaz is only great if you keep upgrading it.

The purchase involves an auto-upgrade plan, which is about 1/3 of the cost.
