I wish Boris would fix that. It seems as if every time I go to use BCC or Red 4 plugins I have to go through the trashing and caps lock rigamarole. It’s too easy to cause a problem if you don’t follow the instructions for applying a filter (ie you can’t have the filter tab open when you apply).

Thanks. That’s my thought as well because I didn’t have any problem with tapes recored on other camcorders. It belongs to a friend, perhaps he should get it looked at.

I’m going to guess that the Canon is out of spec as I don’t have any problems with DV and DVCam tapes from the other camcorders I mentioned in my original post. As the H1 is less than a year old, I’m going to recommend that the owner send it in for service.

I switched to FCP from AVID and Media 100 in 2004 and am very pleased. However you need to know that FCP has a significant limitation compared to AVID and M100. You cannot mix resolutions on the same timeline. If you import media that doesn’t match the sequence settings then you’ll need to render that media. A work around to playback without rendering is to use FCP’s Unlimited Real Time (RT) function. It adjusts resolution and/or frame rate for playback of clips that need to be rendered. I’ve used 8-bit uncompressed clips in a DV sequence and it seems to playback in realtime. That said, I’m still quite happy with FCP.

I had the same problem and used capture now to get some of the video into FCP, however I still got the error message and not all of the video could be captured.

Just out of curiosity, what camcorder and type of tape was the problem tape shot on? My problem tape was shot on a Canon H1 in DV mode (TDK DV tape). Subsequent captures using DVCam tape shot on a Sony DSR 450 were not problematic.
