You can’t run the AJA control panel while FCP is open. You might try adding the Proc Amp filter after you capture to boost the Setup level.

I can’t remember what happened, but Carbon Copy Cloner failed me a year ago so I switched to SuperDuper. It’s not free, but it has worked flawlessly.

I’ve had problems with this as well, especially with projects in which I tried to trim excess media. The thing I noticed is your use of a forward slash / which is a character that FCP might not like. I would avoid any non alpha or numeric characters except perhaps for underscore _ and dash -.

I have this switch and it has been temperamental. If the cables are not seated just so you can have problems with the connection. Also I’m on my second unit from Sign Video. The first unit caused playback and capture problems. Sign Video willingly sent me a new box and it works fine as long as the cables are properly seated. Move the box too much and the connection can be lost. Also there is a limit to the length of the cables. I can’t remember what it is, but I have nothing longer than two meters on any port.
That said I have been using the switch for almost two years with no other problems.

MPEG Streamclip should recognize the AC3 Audio without any additional software. I ran a test where I captured video and audio from a DVD with audio encoded in AC3, 128 Kbs, Dolby 2.0. I was able to successfully export to Quicktime, Apple DV/DVCPro Codec with audio.
When you open .VOB file in MPEG Streamclip check the field in the bottom left labeled “Audio PID.” It should show something like “128 AC3 2.0” (the first number is the bitrate chosen when the audio was encoded). You should be able to play the VOB file in Streamclip and hear the audio. If you can’t hear the audio or the setting don’t appear then something may be wrong with the data on your DVD.
In the Movie Exporter Dialog box make sure that “Sound Settings” are Uncompressed, Stereo or Mono, 48Khz.
These are the settings that work for me.

My Book Drives are formated in FAT32 which has a four gig file limit, but works on both Mac and PC. NTFS is the preferred file format for Windows but OS X cannot write to it directly. Kevin is right, you need to do a quick reformat using Disk Utility. Be sure not to choose Journaling as it can cause the drive to run slower.

Try choosing the one of the AJA Io easy setups such as
“AJA Io- NTSC US Betacam 8 Bit to DV” or
“AJA Io- NTSC US Betacam 8 Bit Uncompressed”This assumes that you are capturing from Analog Betacam. If not choose one that fits your source.

Could this be the first of many OS X programs not offered as a Universal application and written only for Intel Macs? Fellow Power PC users, save up your money as your mighty G-5’s maly quickly become obsolete. I hate to doom and gloom, but at the rate things change these days today’s cool box is tomorrow boat anchor.

Have you tried the following?
1. Be sure you have the latest AJA drivers and firmware
2. Trash your Final Cut Pro Preferences
3. Repair Permissions
