I would black the tape, then go back and do an audio insert edit. You can’t stripe a tape with audio only. You have to record a video track, along the control (CTL) and timecode tracks. These are the foundation for proper playback later on, via the decks servo circuit that monitors the playback speed.

Yes you can output HDV via firewire to DV but the quality is quite poor and no good for final output.

That’s right. Even is you deselect the checkbox for new clip on start/stop.

I got back to my office and confirmed this. Ripped DVD files (at least those created in MPEG Streamclip) do not have Timecode. Open the clip in the viewer and go to Modify > Timecode Choose Frame to Set > First, and then check the Source TC check box. Then you can choose your starting TC number and the type of TC (Drop or NDF).

It probably does not have a timecode track. Go to the modify menu and add aux timecode.

Unfortunately his suggestion about clearing the history did not help. Perhaps I should try running Compressor Repair again.

I have a different experience. When I consolidate a sequence all of the files associated with the project are copied including graphics, music, motion, etc. I often hand off these “trimmed projects” to my clients that have FCP without having to do anything else. Of course I check the trimmed project to be sure all the correct media is in the timeline.

Based on my experience, multicore processing in Compressor does not work with Windows Media using the Flip for Mac WMV encoder. Only one processor appears to be used in the batch monitor.
