That is how I had it to start, the P2 setting. It worked fine when I switched it to tape but coming from a Beta SP I wanted to come in at DVCpro 50. I could not get it to work. Perhaps P2 is not designed for s-video in.

Thanks!, After I posted here late last night I thought of that and it did work! I needed to shoot a new background that had more light but it was a pain getting this much animated and I didn’t wnat to loose it. Here is the 3 second clip.

Thanks for the ideas. I will give them a shot. The spooling thing might be a little hard and I understand that. I think I would want the rope to just extend out as the catapult launches to keep it realistic.

    Thanks,

February 20, 2007 at 6:26 am in reply to: Problem with P2 Footage & FCP (1920 becomes 1280) WHY?

This feature is a pain in the but and I have to do an extra step. I do a lot of work with this footage in Shake and that program brings in a squashed image. Everythign renders and wors just fine but the last project I did was to Roto Scope a Tennis ball. I had to squash my spline to make it work. But when I export the footage in FCP and select it as 1280 x 720 16:9 it comes out in QT player as 1248 x 702. I wonder why that is?

Thanks, I looked at the deck today and was caught of gaurd a little because I was so use to the smaller 4 pin for the firewire devices. To see the larger 6 pin made me wonder if I could connect my Laptop right to it and record.

O wait, my bad. The PDF that I was reading had all the updates since 5. They said that they repiared it in 5.1.2 and there was nothing in this version…

    Sorry.

They may have done some work on the import of P2. I just read the PDF that came with it and here is what it says.

“Compatibility issues with Panasonic P2 camcorders have been resolved. For more
information, see the Panasonic P2 chapter in the HD and Broadcast Formats document,
available from the Final Cut Pro Help menu. ”
