February 16, 2007 at 12:45 amDoesn’t fix the problems that many of us are having importing P2 footage with 5.1.2. I still only got 4 out of 10 clips to import. Meaning that I still need to resort to FCP 5.1.1 for my importing needs.

February 16, 2007 at 3:14 amThey may have done some work on the import of P2. I just read the PDF that came with it and here is what it says.
“Compatibility issues with Panasonic P2 camcorders have been resolved. For more
information, see the Panasonic P2 chapter in the HD and Broadcast Formats document,
available from the Final Cut Pro Help menu. ”-Lars

February 16, 2007 at 3:18 amO wait, my bad. The PDF that I was reading had all the updates since 5. They said that they repiared it in 5.1.2 and there was nothing in this version…
Sorry.

February 16, 2007 at 3:57 pmShane, I wasn’t aware of a problem. Are you only seeing 4 clips in the import window instead of 10, and that’s how you know? Or are they not even showing up in the window? How frequent is the problem and is it easily detectable?

February 16, 2007 at 4:06 pmI see all 10 in the Import window. Then I highlight them all and put them in the IMPORT QUE and they begin to import. Then I get exclaimation points next to 6 of them, indicating an error importing. IN the import window, 4 clips have the circle to the left of them darkened, indicating they have imported properly. I go to the capture scratch folder and see that yes, only those 4 clips have been imported.
I click on the exclaimation points and they say the clips were corrupt and couldn’t be imported.
Yet, I use FCP 5.1.1 and all the clips import fine. So…the P2 import function of fcp 5.1.2 and 5.1.3 is busted.

February 16, 2007 at 4:41 pmShane, have you tried turning off the remove pulldown preference and selecting the encompassing folder and not the CONTENTS folder?

Shane,
I import P2 clips roughly three times a week and have not seen this once. I’ve had giant clips that span three cards and lots of short clips on a single card, and have still not experienced this. I do know that Panasonic has an FAQ out on how to solve this problem. It’s at: https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/faq/P2store_macmount_e.pdf
They claim this phenomenon affects Mac Pro and MBP (Intel based) more than the PowerPc, but it seems odd that I haven’t seen this once on our MBP C2D 17?

February 16, 2007 at 5:33 pmThanks. That’s never happened to me. I don’t count the number of clips I should have prior to importing. My fear was that they wouldn’t show in the window and I wouldn’t know what I was missing.
How frequent or constant is this for you?

February 16, 2007 at 9:17 pmJeremy, I do not have REMOVE PULLDOWN selected because the footage is 24pn. And I tried selected the encompassing folder AND the contents folder to no avail.
Mitch…that article you linked isn’t the issue. The cards and the P2 partitions mount just fine. It is when I import into FCP that FCP 5.1.2 claims that the clips are corrupt, and won’t import them. I launch FCP 5.1.1 and I can import them all just fine.
This doesn’t affect everyone, but it does affect a significant amount. This is a huge issue over at DVXUser.com.

I definitely haven’t seen that on on the G5’s or the Intels. That is ugly. Has anyone tracked to see if it’s certain Mac models… OS versions, FCP versions, etc.?
