Hi,
The usual things to check:
1) Make sure you use easy setups to configure the project.
2) Make sure that you create a new sequence AFTER choosing the easy setup as they don’t affect any existing ones.

DVCPRO HD 720p23.98?
We don’t support down conversion from this format, only 720p59.94. However, a customer that I was speaking to said it’s possible using a workaround which I’m investigating. Drop me an email at:

I’m going to check this workaround out and if it’s ok, let me you know.

We didn’t have Mac Pros when we started capturing to DVCPRO HD. :p
I’l check with the guys here and see if we can turn this back on again.

What is the make/model of VTR you’re capturing from?
Are you capturing component video or SDI?
When you say “no picture”, what i in the Quicktime file? Noise? Black?
What format are you capturing to? 10-bit? 8-bit? DVCPRO HD?
What format is your deck / camera putting out? 1080/60? 1080/50? 720p60?

Hi,
You’re probably capturing to a compressed codec like DVCPRO HD or JPEG. We turn off the preview to conserve CPU cycles as they need to go into compressing your video. As the systems get more powerful, we’ll be looking into turn the preview within Final Cut Pro back on again. This does not happen with Uncompressed captures.

Yes it will do that. Working with ProRes will not be different from using any other codecs that you’re now working with right now.

This is normal. You cannot record and transcode to HDV. I don’t think the Mac Pros will be able to handle this conversion.

What is the model number of this one? What kind framerate and format are you working in? Is your Final Cut Pro project setup using the easy setups provided in Final Cut Pro? Is View > External Video set to “All Frames”? After choosing the easy setups, did you create a new sequence? Easy setups do not affect existing sequences.
