    Hi all,
Capturing some footage for a job, got component in looking fine at 720p 60. When I select capture “now” in FCP 5.1.4 I just get a black screen with final cut pro txt on. Can’t see input while capturing.

I have only a 30″ apple display no preview monitor for now. I have see another BM system and the window displayed the input on mac display and grade1 Sony. But that was from Digi-Beta.

I have tried numerous options.. tuning output off in sys prefs etc.. only preview on/off in fcp is next to the audio.

    Any ideas?

macpro cd2 4gig ram 7600gt fcp 5.1.4 decklink drivers are 6.1 I recall.. latest from site.

    Cheers

    P

    Hi,

You’re probably capturing to a compressed codec like DVCPRO HD or JPEG. We turn off the preview to conserve CPU cycles as they need to go into compressing your video. As the systems get more powerful, we’ll be looking into turn the preview within Final Cut Pro back on again. This does not happen with Uncompressed captures.

Ah.. hmm. With a 2.66 coreduo 2 and 4gig can we not have an opion in the driver to turn this on with a warning? There are plenty of other options to cause dropped frames. So it would be good to have the option. Otherwise I’m going to have to stump for another monitor. A 30″ is plenty. I’d rather not fil the raid with uncompressed footage.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

We didn’t have Mac Pros when we started capturing to DVCPRO HD. :p

I’l check with the guys here and see if we can turn this back on again.
