I was referring to Ben’s issue and I would also like to see how the other customers go with the v6.x drivers. Frame offsets WILL affect duplicate frames during an insert edit as I’ve explained in the thread you’ve linked to. It was also documented in this support note from Apple which referred to the Panasonic D5.

Hi,

If you’re seeing this in the Canvas window in Final Cut Pro, then there’s a high chance it’s not the card’s output. IT could be codec related or something else.

Try this. Quit out of Final Cut Pro, go into “/Library/Quicktime” and move any “Blackmagic” related files to the desktop. Restart Final Cut Pro and then see if this issue is still happening. We actually use Apple’s Uncompressed codec in Final Cut Pro.

Hi Sam,

Yes, this is indeed an offset issue. When you do an insert to tape, you’ll notice that the “preview” window starts on a still frame while the deck is cueing up to the pre-roll point. Once playback on the deck starts, Final Cut Pro reads timecode from the deck and then tells itself when to play. If everything goes right, it will start playback at the exact same time the deck starts recording. If it starts play back a frame later than when the deck starts recording, the still frame will get recorded onto tape, which is why there is a duplicate frame.

This is why it is important to test out your inserts to tape when you get in a rental deck. Even Apple recommends different offset settings when changing cables as well as decks.

We had an issue with the offsets happening RANDOMLY on inserts to tape that you have been reading about. We believe that this issue will not happen if you use the DeckLink or Multibridge v6.x drivers with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4.

If you have a CONSISTENT offset with the latest drivers (v6.x or better), then it’s a matter of calibrating the Playback Offset option in Device Control Presets.

Does it show up in the Canvas window of Final Cut Pro after rendering? Please check through the video output and when you come across a problematic frame on the output of the card, check if it’s also in Final Cut Pro’s canvas window. Thanks.

Hi Ben,

If it is consistently off by one frame, please adjust the playback offset in Final Cut Pro’s Device Control Presets Editor for the setup you’re using.

What was done to the system between periods it was working and not. Did you restart the system? What framerate of 1080 HD are you working in?

It is not possible to use Intensity with a DVI monitor with an adapter. You’ll need a display capable of HDMI inputs.

Is the PCIe card in the top slot to begin with?

Are you using the PCIe cable we’ve supplied and not a substitute DVI-D cable of your own? They are not the same.

Does the unit work when it is connected via USB to the Mac? You’ll need to launch the Multibridge Utility to check this one. The software, when launched, should allow you to change the settings on the Multibridge and not be greyed out.

We know that some customers are doing this but since Bootcamp is in Beta, it is not an officially supported format. Once Bootcamp comes out of beta, we’ll be happy to investigate this. Who knows, maybe one of the supported configuration Windows machine will be a Mac Pro. 🙂
