  • Hi Brett,

This is a FCP issue and how it handles outputs from the viewer and the canvas differently. When you are viewing from the “viewer window” you are essentially looking at the file from the bin and not the sequence therefore FCP will output the original files pixel aspect ratio and resolution, whereas the canvas is displaying the sequence and therefor the sequence settings.

When faced with using mixed formats in FCP in the past I would usually transcode everything to prores before the edit to avoid just such a problem.

Any particular reason you would want to use your extended desktop over SDI instead of using the display port from your MPB/laptop?

Not in the same way that the Blackmagic US3D does, over SDI. Since you have two TB ports you can just route your extended desktop via the 2nd TB port to your computer monitor, not over SDI.

What you might have to do is un-instal the AAM, Adobe Application Manager and then re download it from the adobe website. There is an updated AAM app that fixes some of the issues.

As far as 6.0.2 gors on my MAC it has been significantly more stable that 6.0.1

  • Good point. How quickly I forget that everyone is not using a full size keyboard.

Adobe released a new AAM a few weeks ago. If you have not updated to the new AAM, I would sugest trashing the old Application manager . and downloading the current version. I have had none of the headaches of the old version since I updated.

  • It doesn’t exist in 5.5. You will have to go to your keyboard shortcuts and map it yourself. I would sugest to the same keys as you were used to in FCP7. Or choose the FCP7 keyboard layout.

Exactly what Tom said. You charge what you are worth. Even is it’s side work you are still working and therefor should be thinking business. There is no straight forward answer because every situation and circumstance is different.

If in 5.5 use dynamic link to do the vfx work in AE for the group of clips. It’s archaic but it works.

They will live side by side on your system. I would recommend to keep them both until your entire workflow is in 6.0 because if something in CS6 doesn’t work in a project you’ve updated then you may need to go back to 5.5 to take care of it.
