Hi Michael…
That happened to me and it was because I had ticked the “black trailer” option in the Mastering settings. I hadn’t thought of it before since I was just inserting from in to out points, but for some reason enabling that trailer option mattered even when I wasn’t inserting “entire media”.You’ve probably checked that already but since it got me once…

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll check it out with Apple support. It is a brand new machine, delivered in December. Problem is I was busy working on another job and didn’t have time to get the station up and running til last week. Thanks again Zane.

OK all, just to update whoever is experiencing similar problems:
I just spent an hour and a half with Apple tech support in their European HQ. The problem has perked their interest and it appears that it is in fact an issue. The problem lies with the Italian pro keyboard and how the software perceives it in FCP. They are working on it and promised to get back to me on Monday. If worse comes to worse we’ll try installing Tiger as we have 3 FCP systems with Tiger and the italian pro keyboard and have had no issues.
Thanks to all who tried to help. As it turns out it was a problem beyond any user! Thanks for the support though. After 3 days of problems that has a value of its own!

Hey David,
When I run the Software update, the only thing that comes up is QT 7.4 (now 7.4.1). I get no other indication of other updates that are necessary or the message that you mention saying my software is up to date. Oddly enough I wan’t notified even of the FCP 6.0.2 update after having installed FCP 6. As I say, everything is brand new and totally legal. But obviously there is a missing link somewhere. I saw on the Apple download page there is a fix for keyboard problems called “proapplication runtime 4.0.2” but I’m having the same problems as with the security updates.kim

Just an update incase it jogs somebody elses memory…
I followed Jeremy’s advice and saw that although I ran the Apple automatic software update option from the finder, I never got the prompt to run the 2 Apple pro updates (2007.01 and 2007.02). These updates seem to address just the kind of keyboard problems that I am experiencing. But it was too soon for elation. I downloaded both updates, but when I try to install the first one I get the message: “This computer does not need this update” !! And there is no apparent overide. The same thing happens when I try to install the second one. I have a call into Apple here though the technician of course is not in til the afternoon.
Though the problem is not solved we are hopefully honing in on the cause.
Thanks everyone, and if anything else comes to mind let me know!

Thanks to all. I’m in Italy and it’s already night time so I’m not in front of the computer but will check Jeremy’s link first thing tomorrow though I’m pretty sure I haven’t missed any updates. But I will surely check.
I’m plugged into the CPU, not the monitor. But actually the idea of trying another USP port did cross my mind. I’m using the supplied extension USB extension cable. Could it be a power thing?
As fot the permissions, I did repair, though strangely enough it took forever. At least 10 minutes. I’m used to that being a pretty quick procedure but the progress bar seemed to hang at a certain point. I went away from the computer for a while and when I came back it had indeed repaired permissions – there was just one file out of place.
If you all get any other ideas I’d be thrilled! I’ll close the thread if and when the problem gets sorted out.
Thanks all.

Just wanted to thank all that took the time to respond. It gives additional thinking points.

Thanks for the heads up Gabe.
So far everything is working fine but I’ll keep that in mind. I know that was already the case for my Sugar plug-ins.

Found a distributor right here in Rome. Oddly enough we have purchased other equipment from that very distributor in the past. Isn’t the Cow wonderful 🙂 Thanks Walter!
