  • Insert edits over-running…

Posted by Michael Lansdell on February 18, 2008 at 11:39 am

    Hi,

Another week, another issue with Final Cut! My system has started over-running when I perform an insert edit. By this I mean that it starts in the right place, but runs past the end point set by the out marker and writes black over what follows. It over-runs by about 5 seconds.

Any ideas? I’m having to replay out entire programmes due to a single shot change, not good!

    Thank you for your time,

    Michael

What are you using as a device control setting with which deck?

My deck is a DVW-500P, I’m using a Blackmagic Decklink Extreme (6.6.2 Driver) and the Device Controller setting is Blackmagic PAL 25Hz.

    Thank you!

This exact issue started happening to me this week with a Panasonic AJ-HD1400 DVCPro HD deck. Thought it was something wrong with the deck, but maybe we have another bug in 6.0.2.

My solution was to insert edit from that shot to the break. Be sure to fill out a feedback form for Apple on their website.

    Hi Michael…
That happened to me and it was because I had ticked the “black trailer” option in the Mastering settings. I hadn’t thought of it before since I was just inserting from in to out points, but for some reason enabling that trailer option mattered even when I wasn’t inserting “entire media”.

You’ve probably checked that already but since it got me once…

Device control is firewire? If so you’ll never get a truly accurate instert to tape… if it’s RS-422 then it should be frame accurate.

I’m using the “Editing” function and still have that issue.

I had this issue in ‘Editing’ mode this week too.

We were using an AJA KONA card and RS-422 remote through SDI to a SD DigiBeta deck. It was on a clients kit so don’t have the chance of checking settings now. (I will forward a link to this thread though)

We had 2 suites and ‘Edit 1’ was working fine and dropping edits without this problem but we had to do a rush output from ‘Edit 2’ had a few seconds of black added to the insert. Odd.

It turns out I had a five second trail on after my inserts, just like Kim Rowley said, I guess this was reset by the 6.6.2 update for blackmagic.

Thank you all yet again, much appreciated!

Not here. I even just brought up the Edit to Tape function. It’s in Edit and even if I was in Mastering, everything is unchecked as I don’t use anything from the Mastering settings.

Have you tried Mastering setting though, making sure it’s all unchecked, but keep the “Print: in to out” setting?
