Do you have a 3D layer of the back of his head in your comp?

As Michael said, set a keyframe while he is facing left, then scale x to -100. Make it a hold keyframe so that his head just cuts from left to right.

Yeah, I have no idea what’s going on there, but Kevin Camp is right – it has something to do with DOF.

Using your problem file, I did find that it went away if you bump the aperature up to around 50.

Don’t know what is going on there, but you should report it to Adobe as a possible bug.

You don’t “need” to know expressions to do what you’re asking. They just help you manipulate things faster.

Most “film-look” effects have some sort of value control to fade off the effects. For example, BCC’s effect called Film Damage has grain, dirt, hair, and scratches. Each one of those elements has either an “amount” or “density” value. So for each one, make a keyframe at the beginning of your fade using your desired value amount and then at the end of your fade, bring them all down to zero.

Expressions allow you to link all of these to one controller layer, which makes for quicker manipulation. Don’t get me wrong, you should learn expressions, but they aren’t totally necessary to accomplish what you want.

I am guessing that you need to click the collapse animations button on your precomp. But, Walter is correct. All of this could be done in one comp.

Especially clarify the following line:

“I created my main composition at 720×480 and then precomped the animatables on a stage of 2000×480 to create that movement feel.”

What exactly are you trying to do? Are you using cameras?

It is a suggested payment of $10. You can download it for nothing. I usually test out a script without paying. Then, if it works well for me, I go back and throw down the suggested price, sometimes more if it saves me hours of time (compsfromspreadsheet was one of those – saved me tons of time for a certain project). I figure if a person saves me time and money by writing a useful script, they deserve it. You want them to continue to make useful scripts, right?

Change To Color and Change Color are good for a quick fix. Then I second Michael’s suggestion of Color Finesse. You can also get somewhere with curves. Depends on what you’re trying to accomplish.

This is a long shot.

I had a tape where the control track was damaged. I could hear the audio but couldn’t see the footage unless played in reverse. So I used a professional deck to play in reverse and then digitized. Brought it into FCP and reversed it back to normal. I had to then record the audio and try to sync the entire tape. The image quality was horrible but watchable.

Overall, I am guessing that you are having a control track issue. This could be because of a defect in the tape or the camera. I would recommend finding someone in your area who has a professional deck and see if they can view it. Ask if they can adjust tracking. They may check it for you for free on hopes of billing you for a transfer. If that doesn’t work, then go the data recovery route.
