Fairly simple question for experienced AE user
Posted by Scott Adams on November 28, 2011 at 4:43 pmI am fairly new to AE. And I am working on an animation project. I created my main composition at 720×480 and then precomped the animatables on a stage of 2000×480 to create that movement feel. Everything works great when scrubbing the timeline or running a ram preview in the precomp. But when I try to run a ram preview in the main comp or do a test render only one thing is animated the rest stand static. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this or what I am doing wrong?
Thanks,

November 28, 2011 at 6:18 pmIt’s tough to say without knowing more about your project. I can’t visualize your problem from your description very well.
A few screen shots showing your AE UI in both comps might help — or perhaps if you can upload the AEP, some kind soul will take the time to review it. The COW allows both image and file uploads.

November 28, 2011 at 6:59 pmEspecially clarify the following line:
“I created my main composition at 720×480 and then precomped the animatables on a stage of 2000×480 to create that movement feel.”
What exactly are you trying to do? Are you using cameras?

November 28, 2011 at 8:40 pmWhat I mean is my main comp is sized 720×480 standard ntsc. The precomp is 2000×480. No cameras involved. The precomp is animated (keyframed on the main comp) from left to right to give my main character (butterfly keyframed along a path) a sense of flight with flowers and trees, in foreground and background swaying back and forth in the “wind” (animated with the puppet tool). In the precomp evrything works as it should. But when I render out the main comp only the butterfly moves properly.
Below are some screenshots that I am adding to hopefully help explain this.

No need for the wider comp; all this could be animated within your main comp, with either 3D layers [link] and an animated camera, or parenting [link].

No screen shots here — when you upload them to the COW, you must also copy and paste the EMBED or LINK codes as in the following image. The instructions are in the fine print below:

November 28, 2011 at 9:07 pmI am guessing that you need to click the collapse animations button on your precomp. But, Walter is correct. All of this could be done in one comp.
Here’s a screen grab.
