I don’t think that XD cam is going to look too good up converted to DVCPro HD. If I were you, I’d simply shoot in DVCPro HD from the beginning. The same goes for converting HDV to DVCPro HD, which is a GOP based codec going to a frame based one. All in all, I’d shoot in DVCPro HD from the get go. Capture video for now, and when P2 comes out, you’ll be able to get the media into the computer that much faster.

May 11, 2005 at 5:28 pm in reply to: Is daisy chaining a camera and FW drive reliable?I’m glad it works for you guys, but it really depends on your DV device. Some of the cheaper DV Camcorders are FW100 and that will drive down the speed of your drive to that level.
That’s why I’m cautious to recommend this.

Use the Media Manager to move your stuff and it will be relinked automatically.

May 10, 2005 at 9:54 pm in reply to: Is daisy chaining a camera and FW drive reliable?I don’t think it’s reliable at all. It’s already a krap shoot with FireWire drives and slow FireWire ports on cams driving down performance as it is.
I suggest buying a cardbus adapter to provide a separate bus for drives and DV Deck.
But then again, I’m rather a hardcore.

First of all, toss your prefs. That should cure it.
IMHO, I personally don’t care what is in the Log and Capture window as picture shows up nicely on my video monitor WHILE I’m logging. My eyes are focused there, not on the tiny Log and Capture Window. Please don’t tell me that you are not using one!
Always connect your system up to spec with video monitor and speakers connected to the DV Deck or Camcorder, not the Mac. See page 55 of the manual.

I wish everyone would read that article. Not understanding how RT Extreme architecture works (including how to render correctly, when to render and when not to, how to use Unlimited RT, the “blurry photo” misunderstanding and MANY other issues) results in countless posts here at the cow.
