Appreciate any feedback on FCP and XDcam integration, we are talking about making this our aqusition format the DVD 50 IMX version. But …my plan is also to install Kona 2 cards and up convert SD 16×9 to DVCPro 100 HD. The XDcam files would be xfered not thru a Kona 2 card to save on the digitize process then the upconvert gets messed up ? I know a third party app. flip factory is needed has anyone tried this ? Should we wait for P2 to come down in price ?
Maybe HDV / Kona 2 to DVCPro 100 would be a better interim step ? I have 5-g5 suites to upgrade need 16×9 to future proof content. Thanks in advance for any feedback !

I don’t think that XD cam is going to look too good up converted to DVCPro HD. If I were you, I’d simply shoot in DVCPro HD from the beginning. The same goes for converting HDV to DVCPro HD, which is a GOP based codec going to a frame based one. All in all, I’d shoot in DVCPro HD from the get go. Capture video for now, and when P2 comes out, you’ll be able to get the media into the computer that much faster.

I Agree with Kevin. DVCPRO HD will be the most inexpensive investment. You can also look into XDCAM HD when it comes available. Sony estimates 50 GB per media card vs Panasonics P2 card.

    Bob,

Wait until FCP 5 comes out and do a test. This is something that you need to see for your self in operation with your proposed workflow. There arer a tremendous amount of options available. You’ve just got to determine what’s right for you. Good luck.
