the dark green FULL bar checked in your Sequence>Render menus?
Are you in Safe RT?
High Quality (not Dynamic)?
Full Frame Rate (not Dynamic)?
Sequence + Settings> Video Processing Tab>Motion Filtering Quality>Fastest or Best seems to be better than Normal.Try these things. I have a pretty decent rotate right here in the Canvas at 100% with “Show as Sq. Pixels” unchecked.

If Disk Warrior can’t bring your directory back to life, IMHO, you’re pretty much hosed. It’s possible that a component of the FireWire case wore out, then the contents of the drive still might be there. Pull the drive, pop it into the tower, set the pins correctly, reboot and see if it mounts.
From now on, always unmount external drives before shutting down. It’s something not many people do, but should do. I’ve never seen a FireWire drive go bad on me. Well, there was that one that I dropped–yeesh…..

Hmm…that could be one of two things. Check the audio sample settings or your sequence (CMD + 0). They are probably at 48 kHz. Then check your Capture Presets in the Audio Video Settings. They also should be 48 kHz. Finally, check your source and make sure it was recorded at 48 kHz. If it was shot at 32 kHz (which is possible), then change the Capture Preset and the Sequence Settings to 32 kHz.
In other cases, you may just have a corrupt sequence. Make a new sequence (CMD + N) and try that out.
Trashing your preferences is always a good idea when things go wrong.

Not really a good idea to monitor out of the built in. It is being downsampled to 44.1 kHz.
Plus, if you are actually monitoring your video, and have a card – heck – take advantage of being able to have everything in perfect sync. Unlike the higgeldy piggeldy sync you get when monitoring DV.
You should always monitor out of the card if you have one, if you are running DV, the best way is out of the deck. To hear iTunes and Soundtrack, etc., you may use the same set of speakers by either placing a mixer or a Y-Split cable between the card/deck’s outputs and the Mac’s outputs.

If you have a spare bay, I would add a raw internal drive, like Hitachi or Seagate. Cheaper and more stable than FireWire.

Isn’t it odd that the data rate is lower than DV, yet it takes longer to render out? Is that because of the frame size? Or is it just the encoding process? Both? Wondering.
