  • Rotate in FCP is not clean- any fix?

Posted by Justin Ferar on September 19, 2005 at 5:47 am

I’m rotating a shot 2 degrees because the tripod was not level for an establishing shot.

The sequence is DV. Even when fully rendered the shot is blurry and shows strong artifacting. I have tried switching the “motion render settings” to “best” but have no luck getting a clean shot.

I just thought that FCP 5.x would do a better job.

Is there a work around within FCP?

BTW I am using a pro monitor for my viewing pleasure.

Same problem here… used a high res photo file, cropped it, and rotated it 4 degrees… the result is pretty ugly. I tried deinterlace and a couple of other filters….no luck. I’d welcome any advice….

I guess there is no fix.

Luckily I have After Effects but what a PITA!

    You guys have
the dark green FULL bar checked in your Sequence>Render menus?
    Are you in Safe RT?
    High Quality (not Dynamic)?
    Full Frame Rate (not Dynamic)?
Sequence + Settings> Video Processing Tab>Motion Filtering Quality>Fastest or Best seems to be better than Normal.

Try these things. I have a pretty decent rotate right here in the Canvas at 100% with “Show as Sq. Pixels” unchecked.

I put the settings as you suggested and there is no difference.

Oddly- even after effects shows slight blurriness- but is cleaner than FCP.

    Hmm.

IF you have motion use that, extremely clean rotation, just make sure anti alias is on in the project settings.
