HDV: Raid / 8xAGP. What’s first?
Hi there.
Anyone in the heard know what would be the first thing to do to get the rendering faster for HDV in FCP on a d2 G5:
Upgrading to 8x AGP like the Nvida 6800 Ultra since we’re dealing with long GOP?
of Going to SATA Raid drives over internal second SATA drive?thnx.

Other than a faster processor, nothing much will help. FCP processing is not GPU based, so a better GPU won’t help unless you’re doing tonnes of motion work, and I’d get the ATI anyway as you won’t waste a slot.
A big raid will help a little, but as native HDV has small file sizes, that’s not your bottle neck.

Isn’t it odd that the data rate is lower than DV, yet it takes longer to render out? Is that because of the frame size? Or is it just the encoding process? Both? Wondering.
