FW Hard Drive Crashed
Hello all,
I’m having a little issue with one of my firewire hard drives. I’ve been using this hard drive for a number of years and it’s been working fine. I tried booting it this morning, and the drive would not appear on the desktop.
I tried searching for it in Disk Utility and System Profiler, and it does not appear. I tried using Disk Warrior, and again it would not appear.
Tried on a number of different computers, and still nothing.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Usually when something like this happens I get a warning that says “You’ve inserted a disk Mac OS can not read, would you like to format it?” that warning never came up.
Any help would be appreciate, since I do have important projects on the drive.

If Disk Warrior can’t bring your directory back to life, IMHO, you’re pretty much hosed. It’s possible that a component of the FireWire case wore out, then the contents of the drive still might be there. Pull the drive, pop it into the tower, set the pins correctly, reboot and see if it mounts.
From now on, always unmount external drives before shutting down. It’s something not many people do, but should do. I’ve never seen a FireWire drive go bad on me. Well, there was that one that I dropped–yeesh…..
