  • Sync correction with HDLink Dual card

Posted by Paul Ingvarsson on September 19, 2005 at 3:26 pm

Hi, this is a quick one I think.

I am doing an HDV job using the BMD Becklink HD Dual Link card – and using this card to monitor the HD video. I am however using the built in audio to monitor the sound.

Obviously with the current setup my captured clips are playing back out of sync.

Is there a way of correcting this within FCP5 or do I need to just make sure I use an audio output of the decklink card?

    Thanks,

    Paul

You can adjust the playback offset in FCP to adjust for this, but I would recommend you always monitor the Audio and Video from the same source, in your case the decklink card.

Not really a good idea to monitor out of the built in. It is being downsampled to 44.1 kHz.

Plus, if you are actually monitoring your video, and have a card – heck – take advantage of being able to have everything in perfect sync. Unlike the higgeldy piggeldy sync you get when monitoring DV.

You should always monitor out of the card if you have one, if you are running DV, the best way is out of the deck. To hear iTunes and Soundtrack, etc., you may use the same set of speakers by either placing a mixer or a Y-Split cable between the card/deck’s outputs and the Mac’s outputs.

    I totally agree with this,

However this is the situation – i’m awaiting a new pair of edirol speakers that will interface with the digital outputs on my decklink duallink HD card – this card has no analogue outputs – so basically i’m trying to solve a problem in the short term.

Although not ideal is there a way this offest can be corrected in FCP?

    many thanks,
