[bogiesan] “The Motion blur parameter in the Motion Tab cannot be keyframed.”
You used to be able to do that in FCP 4-FCP HD Bogie. Not available in the Motion Tab, but in the Keyframe Editor (Clip Keyframes Mode-underneath the clip) you can get a ramp for percentage of blur that appears to be keyframable.Unfortunately it is not working right now. Used to be way cool.

Go to the VIEW menu and make sure that EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES is selected.

Nothin’ personal here, but may I say:
Dropped frames are due to two things: slow drives and long clips.
Ideally, you should be using a separate INTERNAL HD, as Matte offers up.
Ideally, you should not capture whole tape rolls, but logged first, then captured scene by scene.Inconvenient for your workflow? Sorry. I’m just telling you the things will cause you less headaches in the long run.
Most people that are self-trained (or poorly trained) usually want to capture entire tapes using slow FireWire drives. They don’t see the value in using only supported hardware or the time it takes to log, then capture individual clips or even to set up their systems to spec with external audio and video monitoring.
People that are professionally trained are much more wary of system stability, using fast HDs, iron clad backup schemes, good log and capture habits, monitor their video and audio properly, etc. These folks never experience dropped frames because they know how to avoid them.
You see the problem? You have to become a bit more hardcore in the way you work with FCP, or your problem with dropped frames will persist. Those that are have far fewer problems with FCP.
To answer your question:
If you absolutely have to use a FireWire drive, yes, it’s a better idea to have a separate PCI card to connect your drives to. Avoid daisy chaining them, if you can. Then, your standard FireWire bus can be used for your deck. This should run a bit smoother for you. Make sure the external drive is initialized with Mac OS Extended. You have to look out for that. Many drives come out of the box formatted for PC, not Mac.

You probably are not understanding how anamorphic widescreen works.
If the exported still image is distorted or “stretched up”, yet still displaying a 720 x 480 frame, that’s just what a 16:9 anamorphic frame looks like. Anamorphic 16:9 is distorted on the fly to display in widescreen format, as I said, it’s actual frame size is 720 x 480. This is a common misunderstanding.

This is not the way to go about this. What you really want to do is get the ORIGINAL files from CD and encode from that. To take your MP3s, and then re-encode them to AIFF might work, but the sound quality is not going to be as good.
If you don’t have the original audio CDs, and you still have the music rights, then you don’t have a choice. Recompress, I guess (insert sour face here).
And yes, you should not use other people’s music w/o permission

Just to clarify, you mean XSan. That is the software you need, and it’s $999 for each seat I believe. Ideally, you’ll use an Xserve RAID for storage for Xsan, but there are other storage solutions that can use Xsan. A simple gigabit ethernet networking scenario is not the same as a SAN.Kevin, you cannot use Xsan for distributed FCP rendering. However, you can have distributed rendering with Shake, and distributed encoding for Compressor.

I would never use an iMac just because of #1. Not being able to separate drives and deck on 2 different buses is the way to go. I’d need to have my deck and HD daisy chained to monitor NTSC right? Naw, I don’t wanna do that. I’d rather have a cheaper tower so I can add a PCI card for an additional bus.
Or don’t you monitor to NTSC?
