The big minus with CHV. These are bit map based and not vector based like TItle 3D, LiveType and Motion.

I usually save a selection as a new channel in the Select menu. Usually, you have to reverse the alpha channel with the CMD + I command in PS. Then I flatten and save as a PICT.

And (another little secret in my book and seminar), if you drag between keyframes on the motion bar in clip keyframes, you can slip them to a new position. There’s a little technique you can use to hide all keyframes, then go back to move just the ones you want to align. This is helpful for making adjustments for individual parameters along multiple tracks.

You have to control the velocity of the clip, not time remap it. For that, you have to adjust what are called the velocity handles, which are located halfway down the bezier handles. I have a number of techniques about how to do this in my book, check it out. Or you can look up “velocity handle” in the manual.

The problem is that not many self trained editor monitors audio and video properly as they are working. Either they just don’t know they need to do that, or don’t think it’s important. Wrong workflow on both accounts.
At ALL times when working with FCP, leave the DV deck powered up. The speakers and video monitor should be hooked up to that deck AS you work. Focus your attention on the video monitor and what you hear out of the speakers, not the Canvas or any audio coming from your Mac. Hope that is clear.
This is called monitoring and it’s a basic setup that ALL pro editors should use.

First of all, don’t rely on the little baby screen on the DSR-45. What you want to do is hook up a production monitor to the deck so that you can see the footage you are logging. Don’t rely solely on the Log and Capture window.
If the previw is disabled, then avoid daisy chaining FireWire devices, like decks to drives. FireWire drives are not approved for use with FCP.
Finally, trash your preferences and then the image should return to the Log and Capture window.
