We are renting a FCP here at the station until we get our new one. When we try and capture from the dv deck no video plays in the viewer. The controls on the viewer play the video in the deck because you can see it on the monitor on the Sony DSR 45. It just won’t play in the FCP viewer. Any suggestions?

First of all, don’t rely on the little baby screen on the DSR-45. What you want to do is hook up a production monitor to the deck so that you can see the footage you are logging. Don’t rely solely on the Log and Capture window.

If the previw is disabled, then avoid daisy chaining FireWire devices, like decks to drives. FireWire drives are not approved for use with FCP.

Finally, trash your preferences and then the image should return to the Log and Capture window.
