I just use FCP. It works fine in most cases. You just have to grok how to control acceleration on the motion paths, how to control your bezier curve for scale and how to change the Anchor Point. Not too difficult. Are you having trouble there? If so, please check out my book or my seminar and I will teach you.
Regarding quality, you won’t lose anymore “quality” than with using other tools. You simply have to judge your rendered graphics AS YOU WORK on the video monitor. Many people work without a video monitor and then get confused when they judge the rendered graphics on the Canvas. Your first task is to consider FCP a system, not just an app. So you have to set it up to spec: DV Deck powered up at all times, video monitor and speakers connected to the deck, not the Mac.
I guess you can spend money on a third party app, but in most cases it’s totally unnecessary, as long as you know your FCP tools well. Many give up too easily….you can get acceptable to good moves in FCP. If you disagree with me, that’s fine–I just have not had to purchase a third party app for this stuff.

How do they look on your video monitor? Don’t have one? That’s your first problem–all rendered graphics can only be judged on a video monitor and NOT the Canvas.
If one element looks crisp in your comp, while others are pixelated, maybe you scaled them up beyond 100%. Guessing here. Without a picture, it’s hard to diagnose your trouble.

Use the Media Manager’s “Copy” function. That way you won’t have to reconnect all of your media after your media and project is copied over.

Don’t have one? That’s your first problem. FCP is a system, not just an app. Set it up to spec and you should be cool. The Canvas is very misleading…..
Also, did you render at FULL quality? Viewing in Safe RT?

First of all, external FireWire drives absolutely SUCK and you should avoid themif at all possible as Apple does NOT recommend them, never has and prob’ly won’t ever.
If you are forced to use them, put them on a separate bus via a PCI (tower) or PCMCIA (PowerBook) card to add not only ports but an additional bus.
Finally, make damn sure that they are initialized with Mac OS Extended in Disk Utility.

Work with a video monitor that can display 16:9 anamorphic. Nope, “mom’s TV” won’t work, you gotta join the big boys and get a true video monitor that can handle a proper 16:9 anamorphic frame. Other than that, yer gonna suffer.
