I have some info on the FCP Color Corrector in my book, “Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro”. The color correction portion is on the basic side, but very easy to understand. What makes my book different is that I show how to achieve color effects as well, such as a few tricks using the Limit Effects function.

Were all the auto-save copies corrupted? No project files uploaded to the internet or iDisk? Did you do any recent work on another machine? Maybe there is a copy of the project in that machine’s autosave vault?

If nothing suggested in the article works, I’d say you probably need to start re-editing this piece. Unfortunately, it’s the price you pay if you rely upon a single digital file with no workable backup. It’s a painful lesson to learn for sure.

Do you have the dark green FULL bars checked in your Sequence>Render menus prior to rendering? Are you in Safe RT? Full Frame playback? Are your graphics on whole, even numbers?

I’d trash your prefs to get the Log and Capture window back first.
Next, I would hook up a video monitor to the DV Deck so you can monitor video as you capture.If you have any external FireWire devices, make sure to unmount them before shutting down. That
can cause your External Video to get corrupted. It can also fry external FireWire drives. If you unmount

You can recapture your master tapes with handle, the media manager provides that option. The only advantage to saving to DVD is that it’s likely speedier to restore a project. I rarely have to restore projects, once they are gone, they are gone. So for me, making DVD backups is a waste of time. If need be, I can restore from my Project file and original tapes (as long as they have solid TC). I can see saving the show to DVD if you were doing a series and had to constantly reload the same bumpers, etc., but the conventional way to back up is to just burn your project file, graphic files and audio to a CD (it’s usually big enough), and recapture from your master tapes. This has always worked for me.

I’m not sure. I’d guess you’d have to try them all out. I have a bullet proof method of controlling acceleration, so I’m OK with my current methods. Might be interested in the Lyric plug in though.

I’d just recapture the original tapes from your project file if faced with recapturing the show, which is rare. Why go through all this trouble? Wondering…

Probably has to do with:
a) the way you are rendering them: Are you in Safe RT, Do you have the dark green “FULL” bar checked in the Sequence>Render menus? Have you rendered them at all or are you viewing them in Dynamic Preview?b) the way you optimized them in photoshop
c) worse yet, you avoided optimizing them in photoshop
d) you are not viewing the rendered results on a video monitor: you should work with a video monitor connected at all times when using FCP. FCP is more than an app, it’s a system–set it up to spec for more predictable results.
e) JPEGS simply suck for post. Period. Avoid them at all costs for post-production, if you can. NO need to use them unless the original was a JPEG.
