Come to think of it, you don’t need a matte for the V1 clip. Just overlay the V2 clip and apply the page peel filter to that.

This will take a layered effect. You have the book graphic on V1 with a Matte cutout where the book pages go. Then place the graphic for the page on V2, scale it down and apply the filter to that. Would that work for you?

[Tom Brooks] “Certain other devices didn’t seem to mind the sharing. Don’t know quite why”
Some DV Devices are only spec’d with FireWire 200. Cheap consumer camcorders are sometimes only half the speed of regular FW400. If attached to a drive, it brings the whole system to FW200 speed. So that’s why it works with some devices and not with others. Best to get a PCI or PCMCIA card or the like to ensure at least FW400 throughput for capture drives.Kevin Monahan

[MrVideo] “Wouldn’t it be even nicer if the window under the cursor would always be the frontmost, automatically.”
Oooh, that would be waaay tweaky for me. Rarely do I click to select the window, I usually use CMD 1-4 to get to the window I want. Keyboard shortcuts all the way baby!Kevin Monahan

[S.E. Ball] “I could just click and drag all the folders over to the new drive also.”
But then you’d have to reconnect, and that doesn’t always go well. WIth MM, you never need to reconnect. This saves you time. Your render files also are moved over saving you time you’d normally spend re-rendering.[S.E. Ball] “MM and double checking each file, tedious”
No need to. If your sequence plays back on the new drives, there’s no need for a clip by clip verification.[S.E. Ball] “In response to your question, which files didn’t get transferred over?
Random: Audio, Video, transitions, renders, etc.”
The problem areas are freeze frames and speed changes. Everything else should transfer over w/o a hitch.Kevin Monahan

[howiechin] “if I could set up with all exteral monitoring…i would when the budget arrives for better equipments”
Don’t wait. Do it now.
If you don’t have a pro video monitor, use a TV set instead.
If youi don’t have good studio audio monitors, use whatever speakers you have
If you don’t have a DV Deck, just use your camcorder
If you don’t have a mixer (to feed both Mac and DV Deck audio), use a Y-Split cable from Radio Shack – only a few bucks. There is no reason to avoid external monitoring when you can do it with gear lying around your studio or home.
Try it, you’ll like it! 😉Kevin Monahan

Do you even need an external drive? Make sure you fill up the extra internal bay before you go with external. Cheaper and way more stable. Easy to install too.
If you must have portable drives (remember, they STILL are not recommended by Apple), I’d go with a G-RAID on a separate PCI card so that you’ll be able to maintain the FireWire 800 speed when you have a DV Deck attached. Remember to unmount your drives before shutting down and all will be well.

.[zrb123] “it should be just fine to use the built in port”
For offline editing, sure. But when you add a camcorder or DV deck to the bus for capturing, monitoring or output, this will slow down the FireWire 800 disk to FireWire 400 speeds. If I were you, I’d buy the card for added insurance against dropped frames
