  • Cinema Commercial – RGB versus YUV – previewing issue

    hi all,

i did a digital highspeed-shooting last week (optronis with 1000 fps). now i have exported png-sequences which i now want to convert to quicktime-files for editing within final cut. the resolution is 1280×720.

the final commercial should go to the film-lab as tif-sequence (rgb) and so the question is: does it make sense to try staying within rgb-space all the time? i would answer myself: sure, there’s no need for any yuv-conversion!
but now there comes the displaying-issue. if i convert the png-sequences to rgb-quicktimes they are displayed very dark on my broadcast-monitor through the blackmagic decklink card. on the canvas they are “boosted” and look similar to the yuv-versions.
should i ignore the broadcast-monitor and rely on the canvas?
should i go over yuv to have a reliable preview?
    ……

    any suggestions?

    alex
