  • recommend firewire drive brands?

Posted by John Graves on July 17, 2006 at 4:41 pm

    Hello

I would like some recommendations as to what firewire drive brands you like — and even where to buy them? Shamelessly commercial question I know, but I assure you I am no one’s proxy. And oh, by the way, I am a citizen interested in acquiring an engineered product, I am not a consumer.

    thanks

Actually, I’ll retract this inquiry based on a good thread on the issue that was launched June 3rd 06.

    cheers

I wouldn’t do the lacie porche drive, I have had to many bad experiences with them bad FW busses and the like… but I do recommend the Lacie D2 drives G-Raids, Lacie Triple Extreme drives…

Do you even need an external drive? Make sure you fill up the extra internal bay before you go with external. Cheaper and way more stable. Easy to install too.

If you must have portable drives (remember, they STILL are not recommended by Apple), I’d go with a G-RAID on a separate PCI card so that you’ll be able to maintain the FireWire 800 speed when you have a DV Deck attached. Remember to unmount your drives before shutting down and all will be well.
