1. you should be able to just duplicate the layer with the mask, then change your stroke effect to ‘on transparent’ for the paint style. this will lose the layer’s image, showng only the stroke. turn stroke off on the previous layer.
2. you can set the start point of a closed mask by selecting a point on the mask, then layer>mask>set firrst vertex.
i don’t know how to bump a previous thread, but you could link to the previous thread.

animate your arrow head. you can use layer>transform>auto orient to get the arrow head to turn as it moves along, and you can adjust the interpolation of the keyframes by selecting the keyframes and using the keyframe assistant or keyframe interploation from the animation menu.
select those keyframes and hit copy. then create a new layer and add a new mask from the layer menu. with the new layer selected hit ‘m’ to reveal the mask property, select mask shape and hit paste. now you can use an effect like stroke to animate a line following you arrow head as it navigates around the screen.

i think that there aren’t many people who have tried it out for two reasons…
first, one of the main things you want in an editing or effects station is stability and running windows on a platform that it was not intended to run on and having to use beta software to do it will put stability in jeopardy.
the other, there is not much of an advantage to do so. i can see some advantage for a programmer or web designer to have both operating systems on one platform, but not so much for editing and effecting.
but you should check out more tech oriented sites like the boot camp page at xlr8yourmac.com and apple’s boot camp forum.

rather than applying timewarp to a precomp, try applying to your rendered footage. then hit the ‘u’ key and select all you key frames. hold the ‘option’ key (mac, sorry i dont’ know the windows key off hand), and slide the end keyframe to where your timewarp effected footage would end… that may be a bit tricky.
you could also try time remap instead of timewarp, time remap will give you keyframes at the begining and end of your footage, then you could just scale all your keyfarmes (using the option-drag method above). that may be easier to maintain timing with your other keyframes.

i don’t know the structure of your comp, but it doesn’t sound like prerendering would be much help in a slideshow style animation, unless you had some background layers that you were able to precomp… particularly if they were cpu or ram intensive (effects like echo, force motion blur, fractal noise, and use blending modes, etc.).
first off, you should probably ask yourself if you need that much resolution in all of your images, 1500×1500 seems pretty large. do you ever see them at 100% scale? if you were able to decrease the size of your images, i think you would have better luck.
another option would be to render in sections and composite the rendered pieces in a final comp. you can do this by defining the work area to a small sections of your comp, ae defaults to render the workarea so you would just need to adjust the workarea for each segment and render.

ideally, you would like to use a lossless or uncompressed codc out of ae and let your nle convert it to what it is using to edit in.
however, that does require a lot of disk space. so the next best thing would be to render to the codec that the nle is using… so, if you are using a setup in premiere for hdv, render to hdv in ae with the same settings you are using in premiere. likewise, if you were using a dvcprohd setup.

try photojpeg. its a good quality codec.
as far as the compression settings for your drive’s data rate cpu’s speed, experiment a little.

yeah, i think you will be asking for problems trying to run them simultaneously… actually i think you will run into problems trying to windows on a mac and trying to gain full functionality of you periferals.
but if you really want to pioneer this, you’ll want to check with the blackmagic guys and whoever you’re going to buy your raid host adapter from. make sure that the cards themselves are do not have platform specific roms and such. better yet find out if they’ve tested their products the way you intend to use them.
there have been documented issues with video cards not working correctly and work arounds to get the drivers to load.
but like ken said, if you want a mac wait until cs3. i’m curious why you’re looking to switch. i actually use them both… i prefer mac, but i think it is because i have used them for longer and can troubleshoot them better. i’m just curious….

actually, i beleive apple moved the bottom slot of the macpros to accomodate the ever expanding video cards, so you won’t loose a slot.
however, with ae7, it’s probably not worth trying to use opengl for preview or rendering do to issues applying opengl accelerated effects (ae will crash if you apply them directly to a layer, you must apply them to an adjustment layer).
i’d wait until you upgrade to cs3. hopefully having a native intel-mac version of ae will fix the opengl issues. and by then there may be a better graphics card or the current ones may be cheaper.
if you want one now, i’d recommend the x1900. and if you’re running two monitors, i’d recommend using two cards (one for each monitor). for the second card try to find one that only takes up one slot, it doesn’t have to be as good as the primary card (the one for previews). you may be able to use your nvidia card, although, i’ve heard unconfirmed issues with loading drivers from 2 different manufacturers.

time remap should do it… enable it in the layer>time menu, then add a keyframe to the time remap propperty at the point where you want to freeze and delete the keyframe at the end of the property.
