i’m trying to timewarp something and i don’t think it’s behaving the way i want it to.
i have a precomp to which i am applying the timewarp effect. inside this precomp are some pre-rendered layers from 3d, and some keyframed after-effects stuff.

what i think should happen is that timewarp would intelligently look inside my precomp to see what my keyframes are doing, and stretch them by the appropriate amount, rather than analyzing the pixel motion.
it should, however, analyze pixel motion for the prerendered 3d layers.

    this isn’t happening though…
what is the best way to time remap a complicated comp with a lot of animation happening? to adjust all the keyframes to suit the client’s new timings will take forever. there is some fast motion with things going past the camera (in my 2D stuff, not the prerendered 3D) that doesn’t give good results when frame blending or analyzing optical flow. i really need something that willuse optical flow on the prerenders and stretch my keyframes on the AE stuff in one hit.

rather than applying timewarp to a precomp, try applying to your rendered footage. then hit the ‘u’ key and select all you key frames. hold the ‘option’ key (mac, sorry i dont’ know the windows key off hand), and slide the end keyframe to where your timewarp effected footage would end… that may be a bit tricky.

you could also try time remap instead of timewarp, time remap will give you keyframes at the begining and end of your footage, then you could just scale all your keyfarmes (using the option-drag method above). that may be easier to maintain timing with your other keyframes.

actually, now that i think about it, i have done exactly what yo’re talking about (effecting a precomp with keyframes) but i’ve always used time remap and i’ve never had any problems like you described. maybe this is an advantage of time remap, although timewarp has some better controls for interpolating pixel motion.
