after you install the 2nd drive in your computer. make sure you format it in disk utility. after that either use the install/restore disk that came with your computer to put the OS on the new drive OR purchase a new copy of the os and install on the new drive. to differentiate you might want to make sure you give the drive a different name like Media Composer.

if it is possible get a second drive and set it you as a boot drive for your Avid. That is what I do with one of my machines one drive has FCS 2 and the other is Pro Tools.
Partioning a drive is a solution but not a best case. when you do that you actually loose drive performance.

May 8, 2009 at 2:28 pm in reply to: Question about upgrading to Final Cut Studio 2

    Mark,
If I remember correctly you will need to update QT before you can do the install. I can not remember off hand which version it will require. If you start your FCS2 upgrade it will tell you at the beginning if your QT is not current enough. But even updating your QT and Installing your FCS 2 you will be fine. I ran my FCS 2 on tiger for probably 6 months before upgrading to Leopard and i never had any issues.

  • I agree with Jeremy. Mac Book Pro to an IoHD via SDI that will do everything you need.

    Mark,
Final Cut Studio 2 will definatly work on Tiger. as to updates after you install the upgrade run software update and all will be fine. What version of Q.T are you running? if it is rather current you should be fine.
    Hope this helps

    yes it is possible.
Drobo has a new unit out that will accomidate all those drives.
I back all 3 of my machines thru a NAS in my network with time machine. As long as your computers see the drives you should be ok
    Hope this helps

curious to the reason if you are going in to the Lhe analog why are you not going out analog? have you tried that instead of using the AES out?

have you tried the “HDV” setting on the capture settings. Yes it is generic but if you have tried others try that. OR you can pick a prores setup as well.
    hope it helps

May 4, 2009 at 3:17 pm in reply to: Mac sound output recommendation

I run all my audio thru my Kona in and out of my Mixer allowing me to do all my VO’s
scratch playback or anything else I need. those annoying alerts hate them and have them turned off.
While the mixer in my scenario is needed as I use it in both my audio and video sides it is not 100% needed depending on what you are doing.
I would suggest turning off your alert sounds and see how things go for you from there

there is no reason that you can not still bring your footage in Firewire.
    But remember it is compressed.
