  • Question about upgrading to Final Cut Studio 2

Posted by Mark Jackson on May 8, 2009 at 1:21 pm

I purchased the final cut studio 2 upgrade about a year ago, but I haven’t installed on my iMac with the Tiger OS. I own the leopard OS, but I don’t want to upgrade to it right now. I won’t be able to use some of my older programs ( Photoshop CS and After Effect 7) with this OS.

Will Studio 2 work well with tiger? Do I need any updates (Quicktime or FCP Studio 2) to make it run smoothly?

My 24″ iMac has 4 gigs of ram and a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I’m currently running Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4

    Thanks.

    Mark,
Final Cut Studio 2 will definatly work on Tiger. as to updates after you install the upgrade run software update and all will be fine. What version of Q.T are you running? if it is rather current you should be fine.
    Hope this helps

    Mark,
If I remember correctly you will need to update QT before you can do the install. I can not remember off hand which version it will require. If you start your FCS2 upgrade it will tell you at the beginning if your QT is not current enough. But even updating your QT and Installing your FCS 2 you will be fine. I ran my FCS 2 on tiger for probably 6 months before upgrading to Leopard and i never had any issues.

Here’s a kind of opposite quesiton. I’ve got a box with studio 1 on it, running tiger. What’s the highest version of Quickitime I can go to without screwing up studio?
I don’t want to just get the very latest only to have to backtrack to make studio 1 work again.
(why still studio 1? it’s an old personal box, not a work box and it won’t run studio 2)

Thanks, and sorry to barge in on someone else’s question. I might post this generally too. But you guys seem to know stuff.
