My footage was shot with a true wide screen chip (2/3rd inch) on a DSR 570, so for DV the image quality ought to be tops, (anamorphic not letterboxed). I tried just changing the aspect ratio to -33 but this ended up shrinking the image and effectively letterboxing it into a 4:3 frame (ie with black top and bottom). That’s why I then had to zoom in by 133% to pull the image back to full screen (with the edges out of frame).
My worry is by zooming the image I am loosing vertical resolution – which I shouldn’t as the image was shot anamorphic 720×576 initially (PAL DV). I would have thought even the horizontal resolution should be faily good, given the wide screen chip used before the codec kicked in, but as I say, its quite ‘blocky’ and ‘shimmery’.
Thanks,
Ken.

Ah OK – in answer to my own plea….
Just figured out if you click on the track ‘name’ ie A3 or A4 it comes back. Doh. Still wish it didn’t vanish in the first place – a bit scary when you’re in a huury…

Could be…. I’m using the Edirol UM-1SX and it’s ‘fast’ midi implimentation, rather than the alternative standard (slower) midi driver. So perhaps this speed boost is significant when interfacing with the Mackie.

I can support Ron’s observations – works perfectly for me too – don’t know where the supposed jog problem came from – works very well, JKL emulation plus the wheel that gives frame advance when moved slowly, and speeds along when moved quickly. My only gripe, and more of a wish for a future implimentation, would be for programmable buttons. The icing on the cake so to speak,

This sounds like the same issue. I can open small edits with just a few layers, but the ones I’m having trouble with certainly have many layers, most probably eight as you say. I guess i could split the main sequence in 4.5 down to two with 4 layers. open in 5 and recombine to make 8.
Thanks for the info,
Ken.

Just a quick note to say I’m using the Mackie control surface and the transport controls work fine for me, exactly as the JKL keys respond. I can’t find a way to emulate the IO keys (mark in/out) though which is a pain. Faders, Pan, Solo, Mute all work well, no noticable lag.

Another thought – I once had a similar problem, it turned out the hard drive containing my waveform scratch files was full – had gillions of files in there from past projects. Deleted them and designated a larger disc, problem solved.

Fantastic – my computer supplier (JIGSAW, in the UK) who are usually very good seem to have given me bad advice in this case. I shall get back to them and order one up – as you say – very handy for the FCP VO tool.
Thanks,

Another vote for clean instal of Tiger and FCP5 – no problems running a DV set-up.

I was informed iMic would not record at 48Khz, nor the edirol UA-20, the cheapest interface for 48K is the M-Audio mobile Pre at around $150?
I have the same hassle using the vo tool.
FWIW FCP5 seems more capable of playing a 44K audio file in a DV (48K) project than 4.5 (without rendering).
A BIG plus for me video-wize is that I can now scale 16:9 footage in a 4:3 project in real time at full res. Never managed that in 4.5. Fantastic.
(FYI I’m using a Dual G4 125 and OS 10.4)
