That’s interesting – I was thinking of getting an AJA IO LA – will this do as good a job as the Kona card do you think? Then I can use the component outputs of my DVCPRO AJ-D450 deck (it doesn’t have SDI).

    Cheers,

But is there a difference between capturing to a different codec, and transcoding within the computer to a different codec? Wouldn’t it be cleaner in fact to transcode DV to uncompressed 10 bit in a single step, internally, rather than playing DVCAM out as analogue YRB and then digitising as 10 bit…. three steps instead of two?

I really don’t know, so grateful for any clarification,

    Thanks,

    Ken.

That’s of course true, but some systems/plug-ins/codecs do this more ‘noise efficiently’ than others, no? Or is colour correction really that simple, crank it up – or crank it down.

Thanks, I’ve been using soundsoap, that seems very similar to me – but what I should have made clear is that I’m looking this time for a video noise reduction tool! Apologies. Any experience in this area?

    Thanks,

I can get SATA drives to work on a G4, but not as a RAID (they actually slow down when in a RAID!). I think there may be a conflict with the SATA cards as reported. I have 2 cards and 4 drives (Lacie).

For the sake of all the generations in the future scanning the archive – David’s right, an HD Camera not a Camcorder, hence no tape copy, hence his concern about the corrupted file. It’s not my place here to justify his workflow, and would be a long discussion if I tried, but thanks for the responses. He’s binned the file now and repeated the capture. But it’s not quite as good as last time! Suffice to say as you’re interested its an underwater survey using a remote drone with HD Camera and umbilical link… all ending up in FCP! But that is another story. A corrupted file was our concern. I’m back to watching the fishes,

    Cheers,

    Ken.

Errr, an HD Camera? We digress. Thanks, anyway,

    All the best,

This is true, but I think he was hoping to avoid the expense of an HD recorder. I suggested he at least find a way of doing an SD backup to tape of some kind – he’s using decklink, but thinks this is not possible while recording. He is taking on board my suggestion that he closes the file every 10 minutes or so to avoid loosing too much material – but this doesn’t help him now. No ideas as to who or what can ressurrect these corrupted files anyone?

    Cheers,

    Ken.

Yes, I’m a previous Media 100 user myself (since version 2). I guess the FCP logic is that once you’ve placed an edit FCP takes you to the next edit insert point, ready for the next insert. But how many editors never have to adjust an edit before moving on? FCP users don’t need to fine cut I guess!

Anyway – tried the previous edit command but despite de-selecting all the autoselect thingies, previous edit insists on jumping through every one of my 16 tracks of audio before eventually returning to the video in point.

Multicamera function is great though! Using it for the first time today. It’s FAB.

    All the best,

    Ken.
