Best analoge format? I thnk I’d put my money on the Panasonic M2 format, their rival to Beta SP. Thames TV and Anglia were just about the only two to use it in the UK. But just like VHS versus Betamax, having the best quality doesn’t neccessarily mean winning the standards war.

It’s all real time on my system, which is not especially up to date (Dual G4125). Not even a green line (preview mode). I find the best way is to zoom by 133.33 then adjust aspect ratio to -33.33 (if this does not work post back and I’ll check – I’m away from the edit system at the moment).

As a follow on to this discussion, I think it’s almost part of the same thread – apologies otherwise, I’m thinking of buying two AG-DVX100B camcorders for shooting a live event. Can I use the firewire output from my Sony DSR570 to set the first AG-DVX100B, then use that to set the second AG-DVX100B, set t/c all in free run, disconnect the f/w cables and expect the cameras to be locked in sync across start stops and battery changes later in the edit?

Thanks for the replies, I’m going to have to do some more experiments to see what’s going on. If I’m going to insert an edit by draging in the timeline, I don’t want to find 5 minutes later and 50 edits down the timeline that some of the tracks have moved in releation to each other! The hard insert (backward arrow) seems to be safe, just still not too clear on what the bent arrow is doing – don’t worry – as I say, I’ll experiment. It will make sence.

Yes, it worked, but then I tried again and it didn’t. What’s happening is that sometimes after I start moving the clip forward the option key gives me the insert symbol, and it works, it cuts the tracks and all move back in sync. Other times in turns into a bent arrow, pointing downwards and it inserts only into one track, pushing it back, but leaving the others unmoved.

My problem now is that I can’t seem to control how the symbol turns into the insert or the bent downward pointing arrow (not the overwrite arrow, that points straight down, but an insert backward arrow, that bends and then points down).

Now I have a feeling that I’m being a real dummy here, but go ahead, I don’t mind being shamed as long as I get this little conundrum of mine solved!

I’m using the latest version, updated over the internet. I’m moving edit 5 which is say 5 seconds, into a space between edit 2 and 3, which is say 3 seconds. Pick up 5 drag, hold down alt key, drop into space, great, I have the 5 second clip followed by the 3 second space, everything (on that track) shifts down. But track 2 and 3 haven’t moved.

Did you try connecting via the F/W 400 interface? I’ve found this has helped (no power downs so far).

Thanks will contact Lacie – they seem very good with support – I need to buy another drive (or 3) to back up as much of the 1 Terrabyte RAID as can…… any advice on alternative drives (although I do like the Lacie and may stick with them).

Interesting development – I tried disconnecting the F/W 800 interface (I’m using a Lacie card on my G4D125 as it does not have 800 built in) and I connected the RAID to the dual built in 400 interface – and the drives behaved perfectly! No problems so far. Maybe it’s the interface card that’s at fault? Or a driver issue with 10.4.4? Anyway I’ll cotact Lacie Tech support,
