I’m thinking about selling my Digi002’s and buying the Mackie Control Surface. The reason would be to have one control surface for FINAL CUT PRO and my current ProTools LE. Is selling the 002 a mistake? My logic is: With the 002 I only really use it’s faders (to mix) and don’t need the other 002 features. I use the 002 only as a control surface and don’t need the audio inputs. So the 002 is going to waste, except for its faders. Has anyone had experience with both the Digi002 and the Mackie control surface? Is the lag time greater with the mackie faders (midi) than with the 002 (firewire) or is it not enough to matter? Can you please recommend a bulletproof midi card I’d need for the G5 to connect the Mackie? Is there a better choice of control surface that I should look at over the Mackie? Thanks in advance.

According to a thread over on the AJA forum, timeline and deck control via jog / shuttle / play / reverse, etc… does not work right now from the Mackie controller. I’m still using the Bella USA Pro Keyboard right now with FCP.

Just a quick note to say I’m using the Mackie control surface and the transport controls work fine for me, exactly as the JKL keys respond. I can’t find a way to emulate the IO keys (mark in/out) though which is a pain. Faders, Pan, Solo, Mute all work well, no noticable lag.
