I also should mention that if I do a search in the Finder window that it never finds anything – the indicator just spins and spins. This started vaguely around the same time as my Compressor issue.
I believe the problem is somewhere besides Compressor itself.

Yes, I updated everything to the latest versions and installed the Pro Apps Update.

  • I’m using a MacBook Pro and I re-installed all my plugins.
Boris also told me that we have to wait for a Continuum upgrade, but I thought some people here mentioned getting it to work. I haven’t had any luck there.
I’ve seen Nattress working on a friend’s MacBook Pro.
Due to circumtances beyond my control I had to upgrade in the middle of a project. Joe’s was MOSTLY working for me, but unfortunately my favorite effect, Joe’s Color Glow, would either (based on its settings) severely whiten the clip or turn the clip into a full screen of white. I had to go clip by clip to replace each one with a Stib’s glow.

This problem used to drive me bananas! I would’ve payed twice the asking price just to make this alone go away:

Final Cut Pro 5.1 resolves an issue in which mouse movement would cause the
Canvas and the video on an external monitor to freeze during Fast Forward and Fast
    Reverse playback.

Go for it. You’ll get more than your money back in time saved. BUT…..
Make sure that you fill out the crossgrade form entirely. I accidentally missed the line about my credit card’s expiration date. Rather than calling my number on the form or e-mailing me at the address on the form they notified me BY MAIL that I would have to resubmit it by either mail or fax. Turns out that after I sent the discs I REALLY needed them back and I had to go without software for nearly two weeks as a result.

I’m in such a time crunch with the work I’m doing now that I’m forced to put those basic problem solvers on the shelf for the moment. This issue is just an annoyance I was hoping somebody may have had some experience with. I’ll try to post the solution when I get to sorting it out.
    Thanks.

    Definitely RGB.
I see that when it’s RGB + Alpha there is a red tint when the playhead is still.
What’s happening is whether it is set to RGB, RGB + Alpha or just Alpha it turns the canvas completely red when dragging the edge of a clip.

  • The final output can be whatever as long as the two frame rates look similar. It’s ultimately headed for DVD.

I have the Nattress filters, I’ll give the de-interlace a shot.

Is this also true for Continuum Complete 4.0????

August 11, 2006 at 8:54 pm in reply to: Boris Continuum Installation with FCP 5.1

I’m having the same issue. I’ve installed a few times now and though I can see the effects in the proper folder they aren’t showing up as effects options in the Final Cut Pro 5.1 menu.
I have an upgraded project that is riddled with Boris CC effects and they can’t find themselves.
I’m also on a new machine – having gone from a G5 dual 2G to an Intel MacBook Pro. Now I’m wondering if BCC isn’t compatible with Intel chips. But shouldn’t that make it work slowly rather than not at all?

No, it was not shot 24p. It’s at 29.97 fps.
I believe the goal is a film look. (Unfortunately, I got the client’s instructions through a co-worker so the details aren’t totally clear.)
Of course I wanted to look into giving them exactly what they asked for (the 3:2 pulldown) before resorting to a film-look filter.
I have a number of tricks up my sleeve to achieve a film-look. I don’t own the Nattress filters, but have seen them. I didn’t realize they were so affordable. I may just pick them up anyway.

But what can be done, pulldown-wise, to something shot 30 fps to make it more filmy? Is that not what reverse telecine does?
I’d like to know this is impossible before I give the client an alternative to what he specifically asked for.

    Thanks,
    Kenny
