I have a new 17″ MacBook Pro attached to a newly purchased refubished 30″ HD Cinema Display.
I recently installed Final Cut Studio, but the installation was interrupted. I think I had to skip Motion and maybe Soundtrack Pro.
I was able to use Final Cut Pro, Compressor and DVD Studio Pro to do some edits and make a couple of DVDs.
Then one day I tried to export from FCP to Compressor and I got a never-ending spinning beach ball. I’ve gotten the same result every time since then. I even tried to wait it out, but hours later it was still hung up.
To troubleshoot I tried to open Compressor on its own. The icon bounces in the dock for 3-4 seconds as if it’s opening and then it stops and pretends like it never happened.
I uninstalled Final Cut Studio as best as I could and re-installed it completely. Everything else seems fine, but Compressor still doesn’t open.
My Cinema Display has been acting funny – not always waking from sleep. So, I tried Compressor with the display unattached – same result.
    Repaired permissions – no dice.

    Any advice?
As always, there’s a deadline looming.
    Thanks!
    Kenny

Have you ran a software update to update your apps to the latest versions?

Yes, I updated everything to the latest versions and installed the Pro Apps Update.

I also should mention that if I do a search in the Finder window that it never finds anything – the indicator just spins and spins. This started vaguely around the same time as my Compressor issue.
I believe the problem is somewhere besides Compressor itself.

I also zapped the PRAM – still no luck.
I logged in as another user – same result.

If your system is running funky, it might be time for a full reinstall from the ground up.

This has nothing to do with your display.
