Someone on this board once suggested using the FCP Compressor/Limiter with these settings as a starting point:
    Threshold: -20
    Ratio: 2
    Attac: 20
    Release: 200

I tried that and stuck with it and it’s a rare occasion that I have to do any more tweaking.
I use Soundtrack Pro only for eliminating background noise, hums, etc… and for quick, easy normalizing.

That’s how my recent trouble with Compressor started.
Here’s a link to the discussion that eventually solved it:

Even if it’s not the same issue this may give you some troubleshooting ideas.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. If it’s hardware based and they can do it live, why would they want to complicate it?
I’ll have to investigate further with the network.
    Thanks!

  • I installed BCC4 on my new Mac Pro yesterday. So far it’s working fine. I can apply and adjust filters and even render. No problems at all. I haven’t checked Title3D yet, though.
You installed with the CD and then ran the Intel upgrade from the Boris site?

OWC recently recommended I use CHUD to manage my exterior drives, but my drives have so far ignored the settings and continue to go to sleep every ten minutes or so.
Very frustrating. Especially when printing to tape and the sequence refers to footage on a dormant drive more than ten minutes in.
I’m going to try Spindown Fix, too – even though I’m running 10.4.8.

I’ve tried to run the patch before, but it didn’t work. Actually, I no longer had any BCC effects in my video effects list. I reinstalled BCC and the patch, but that didn’t help. My MacBook Pro was acting a little fishy on a few levels, so I erased it completely and reinstalled the OS, Final Cut Studio, BCC and then the patch. STILL I have no BCC effects. They’re in the plugins folder, but they don’t show up in Final Cut.
All my other plugins show up and work fine.

I’m in a similar situation, but I was FORCED to upgrade when my G5 was crushed by a 90 foot tree. I tried an odd workaround discussed here on the Cow to get Boris to work (I don’t recall the steps exactly), but it didn’t work for me. Without Boris I don’t have a quality 50% slo-mo and right now it’s the only thing standing between me and a finished project. When I called Boris they didn’t mention a patch, though. Where do I find that?
I’m still on 5.1.1 out of fear of upgrading mid-project, but if it would help me get Boris operational then I’ll give it a shot.

When my office was destroyed I contacted Apple Customer Relations for this very reason.
They e-mailed me prices for replacement manuals.
Each of the four Final Cut Pro manuals goes for $23 plus tax.

I also zapped the PRAM – still no luck.
I logged in as another user – same result.
