Upgrade Dilemma
Posted by Chris Babbitt on October 7, 2006 at 8:32 pmI’ve got a buyer for my G5 and I’m ready to upgrade to a new Mac Pro. The only problem is that I understand that AE plug-ins will not work on the Intel Machines. I don’t think I can live without Boris FX as a plug-in. Boris doesn’t seem to have any kind of a solution at hand. Does anyone know if Apple is addressing this issue?

October 7, 2006 at 9:53 pmIf you download the latest patch, it works, but it’d kinda weird,. You have to do things in a particular order in order for Boris to function properly. Once you learn the routine, it does work. I had to upgrade to 5.1.2 as the p2 updates are amazing.

October 8, 2006 at 3:16 amI’m in a similar situation, but I was FORCED to upgrade when my G5 was crushed by a 90 foot tree. I tried an odd workaround discussed here on the Cow to get Boris to work (I don’t recall the steps exactly), but it didn’t work for me. Without Boris I don’t have a quality 50% slo-mo and right now it’s the only thing standing between me and a finished project. When I called Boris they didn’t mention a patch, though. Where do I find that?
I’m still on 5.1.1 out of fear of upgrading mid-project, but if it would help me get Boris operational then I’ll give it a shot. -

October 9, 2006 at 1:12 pmSorry to hear about your G5 getting crushed by a tree. That’s something you don’t hear about ever.
Go to Borisfx.com and click on the downloads section and you will see a patch for BCC and others. Be sure to read the PDF that comes with it and it’ll explain the process of getting Boris ready to roll. You will have to trash your POA cache to get it up and running (perhaps a couple of times) but it will get you there.

October 10, 2006 at 12:36 amI’ve tried to run the patch before, but it didn’t work. Actually, I no longer had any BCC effects in my video effects list. I reinstalled BCC and the patch, but that didn’t help. My MacBook Pro was acting a little fishy on a few levels, so I erased it completely and reinstalled the OS, Final Cut Studio, BCC and then the patch. STILL I have no BCC effects. They’re in the plugins folder, but they don’t show up in Final Cut.
All my other plugins show up and work fine.
