  • Dragging the end of a clip turns the canvas red

Posted by Kenny Powerass on August 25, 2006 at 11:21 pm

    Hey folks,
When I’m editing and I drag one end of a clip I’m getting a canvas full of red rather than seeing what frame I have dragged to until I let go of the mouse. I do get the usual overlay in the canvas that tells me what clip I’m dragging the edge of and what the timecode is that I’ve dragged to – just no preview frame.
I’ve recently upgraded (or crossgraded) everything. Since everything is different I’m not sure where to begin the troubleshooting. I know it’s not a shift-w issue where I switched to rgb/alpha/etc…
I used to work on a dual 2G Power PC G5 with 2G’s of RAM on two Samsung monitors on FCStudio 5.
Thanks to a micro-burst tornado throwing a 100′ tree through my offiice I’m now working on an Intel 17″ MacBook Pro, 2G’s RAM, on an Apple 30″ HD CInema Display with FCStudio 5.1 UB. AND I’m working in 24p for the first time as well.
Is this a new feature I’m not understanding? Do I have something set wrong?
    Thanks!
    Kenny

    Mr Powerass:

Please double check and make sure your canvas is set to RGB and RGB+alpha. I know you said you looked, but look again.

    Definitely RGB.
I see that when it’s RGB + Alpha there is a red tint when the playhead is still.
What’s happening is whether it is set to RGB, RGB + Alpha or just Alpha it turns the canvas completely red when dragging the edge of a clip.

Have you done the basics yet, like Trashing Preferences and Repaiting Permissions on your Mac?

I’m in such a time crunch with the work I’m doing now that I’m forced to put those basic problem solvers on the shelf for the moment. This issue is just an annoyance I was hoping somebody may have had some experience with. I’ll try to post the solution when I get to sorting it out.
    Thanks.
