Monoprice has a wide selection of all kinds of cables at amazingly low prices.

  • Don’t use thin, horizontal lines.
I will open an existing PPT presentation and bump the lines up from 1 pixel to 5 or 6 pixels.

I am using CS3 and have never been able to get my preview panel to work either. After some searching I found this response:

“check whether Quicktime is configured correctly. Check the hardware acceleration functions in the QT panel as well as support for legacy CoDecs…”

I did find a setting for legacy codecs but did not find anything having to do with hardware acceleration. Of course, the text above doesn’t say it will fix the problem, it only says to “check” it.

[Richard Sanchez] “It looks like a flashing bar sign from the movie “Blade Runner” “

My first thought was “Now approaching Space Mountain!”.

IIRC field dominance for DV NTSC should be “lower”. If you create a new sequence and select an easy setup it will show you the correct field dominance.

[Brendan Pyatt] “”Have you rendered the HD footage? HD in an SD timeline looks awful unless it has been fully rendered.” – Yes.

Just checking. Some people have their preferences set to always play back everything in real time no matter the playback quality. You might humor me and check to see if “Sequence>Render All>Unlimited” is selected.

[Brendan Pyatt] “Also – when you drop the HD footage into your SD timeline FCP automatically adds a “Shift Fields” filter to the HD clip.” – I noticed it has done this – does this effect the picture quality in anyway? I figured I should just leave this alone – thought FCP knows better than I do!”

The “Shift Fields” filter should make the footage higher quality. I just wanted to make sure it was being added.

Media Manager doesn’t work like it should.

I had a four hour sequence I needed to re-capture. Media Manager informed me that it was going to capture ELEVEN hours of footage. I called FCP support and they said they would need to charge me $199 to “give you an answer you are probably not going to like”. I asked why they were going to charge me if the fault was with FCP? So I hung up the phone and went out and spent $600 to purchase larger drives for my RAID instead of giving them $199 to tell me that I am basically screwed.
