  • OT: what do you think of Avid’s new logo?

Having learned NLE on an avid, I go way back with them. I saw the new logo at NAB.
I am not a fan, in fact I didn’t realize that it was the letters “avid” for a minute. Not my idea
Of an effective brand. I guess they’re trying to appeal to younger editors, but it was lost on me.
Then again, as a FCP user, I’m not their target market.

In some ways it’s genius. But the readability is an issue. The avi is obvious, but the D is a stretch. Although, it won’t matter over time. Some logos are just a symbol, but it becomes the brand.

Anyone remember media 100’s second logo? The one with the eyeball? Gawd.

I think the Avid forum would be more appropriate to have this topic.

Transport keys! Fiendishly clever! Totally unreadable! Fiendishly dumb!

By the way, I think while it is clever, it is unnecessary. Avid does not need to re-brand.

It looks like something cheesy from the 80s too…but yeah, no need to rebrand.

Straight from the 80’s was my first impression as well. The old Avid branding seemed almost iconic to me. Maybe that’s cause I really learned editing on an Avid but I was surprised they went in such a different direction.

Ugh! Straight from uglyville and amateurish too. It says absolutely nothing to me.

I actually kinda liked it at first. Then I went back and tried to think about what I liked about it, and I couldn’t figure out what it was. Now, I’m thinking I don’t really like it at all.

And yeah, totally ’80’s, but the ’80’s are back in a big way. Is that a good thing? I don’t know.

If they wanted a more direct interpretation of transport buttons, they should have changed the company name from AVID to “JKL”.
